This is a first stab at how authorship rules could look like for the NGFF project. Bascially:

Any contribution to the NGFF ecosystem can be acknowledged in this repository, including but not limited to
- contribution to spec development

thanks! I think it is pretty solid

maybe it could have one line on papers e.g.

"Authorship on publications stemming from the NGFF effort is not directly tied to presence in either list"

(or whatever better wording)

but it is okay as it is
