fix(cache): skip chmod when the Windows cache dir is already 0700 (#436 by @lennix1337) - #468
Lands #436 by @lennix1337: skip the chmod when the Windows cache directory is already private (0700). On the author's Windows measurement, a warm-run cache directory check went from 2,024 ms to 10.6 ms per call.
This branch carries @lennix1337's three commits unchanged (714fbed, 3f1a11f, c8f9804; authorship kept), plus one merge commit that brings in current main (v0.6.9). The original branch predates the 0.6.9 release, so CI's deckcheck refused it for the missing ## [0.6.9] CHANGELOG heading. We don't push to contributor branches, so the merge with main lives here.
Review (on #436): the chmod is skipped only for a directory this user owns that is already 0700. The existing post-check still re-tests directory, owner and mode before the cache is used, and macOS/Linux behaviour is unchanged. All three CodeRabbit points on #436 were fixed by the author in c8f9804.
On Windows, cache setup now leaves directories with owner-only access unchanged instead of reapplying permissions. Directories with overly broad access are still repaired.
Repeated runs with an already-private cache avoid unnecessary permission updates, helping prevent ACL changes and associated delays.
Cache setup continues to reject junction-based cache paths without modifying their targets.
On Win32 chmod re-propagates inheritable ACLs through the whole cache
tree even when the mode is unchanged, which made warm runs on a 38k-file
repo take ~2 s instead of ~18 ms. Regression: test/cache_ladder_windows.py
and the cacheisolationcheck ACL arm.

cacheDirLadder now skips chmod(0700) when the cache directory already has mode 0700. Windows regression tests and the isolation-check script cover ACL repair, warm-run stability, and junction handling.
cacheDirLadder skips chmod for a directory already at mode 0700. Other modes still trigger permission repair, and existing checks remain. The changelog records the change.
Windows cache ACL regression tests test/cache_ladder_windows.py
The Windows test module checks DACLs and ChangeTime. It tests warm-cache stability, repair of a permissive ACL, and refusal of a junction cache.
Windows isolation-check integration test/cacheisolationcheck.sh
The script uses native Windows Python for DACL checks, converts paths for Windows, retains the POSIX mode check elsewhere, and runs the Windows regression tests.
Fresh Git URL clones can fail when the cache directory has an owner-only DACL that lacks create rights. Repair that case before merging, or explicitly accept the need for manual ACL repair.

Explanation
Issue [#436] requires a Windows-only chmod guard for an existing owner-only 0700 cache directory. src/quality.h adds that guard and retains the post-lstat directory, owner, and mode checks. The existing repair path remains active for permissive directories. The new test/cache_ladder_windows.py covers warm no-rewrite, ACL repair, and junction refusal. test/cacheisolationcheck.sh checks the native DACL and runs the Windows regression arm.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All changed files support issue [#436]. The source change implements the guard. The changelog documents the fix. The two test changes verify Windows ACL behavior and adapt the isolation check for native Windows paths and DACLs. No unrelated change is demonstrated.

@lennix1337, CodeRabbit raised one point on #468 (the branch that lands your #436 with main merged) that we think is real: #468 (comment)
readOwnerAndMode reports 0700 when every allow entry names an owner-class principal, without looking at the access masks. So a protected owner-only DACL that does not grant the owner FILE_ADD_FILE / FILE_ADD_SUBDIRECTORY now skips the chmod that used to replace it, and creating a cache entry under it fails until someone fixes the ACL by hand. It is a narrow case, and it does not weaken the trust check: a directory others can write is still refused.
Since you know this code and have a Windows machine to test on: would you be up for a small follow-up that also checks the owner entry's mask (or treats only the canonical DACL readOwnerAndMode writes as already private), plus a case in test/cache_ladder_windows.py for an owner-only DACL without FILE_ADD_FILE? A commit on your #436 branch is enough; we will carry it into #468 with your authorship. Thank you again, this is a lovely speedup.
…ng 0700
Check that effective allow ACEs for the owner (after mapping generic masks and excluding denied bits) grant FILE_LIST_DIRECTORY | FILE_ADD_FILE | FILE_ADD_SUBDIRECTORY | FILE_TRAVERSE before reporting mode 0700, and retry chmod(0700) without FILE_WRITE_ATTRIBUTES when repairing an RX-only directory. Add regression coverage in test/cache_ladder_windows.py for owner-only DACLs lacking FILE_ADD_FILE.
eadOwnerAndMode\ (\src/infra/os_win32.cpp): In addition to requiring a protected DACL where every allow ACE names an owner-class principal, it now maps generic masks (\MapGenericMask) on effective ACEs ((AceFlags & INHERIT_ONLY_ACE) == 0), subtracts any effective \ACCESS_DENIED_ACE_TYPE\ bits that apply to the owner/token, and reports \
…DELETE_CHILD
readOwnerAndMode could report a false 0700 in two narrow cases, both seen
in review of 375f755:
- A deny ACE on a deny-only group (a UAC-filtered Administrators) was
skipped: CheckTokenMembership is FALSE for a SID without
SE_GROUP_ENABLED, yet the access check applies the deny. Any deny that
applies to the directory and touches a required bit now means not 0700,
whichever SID it names; the membership call, its fail-open on error and
the first-match-per-bit modelling are gone.
- A grant of list, add file, add subdirectory and traverse (mask 0x27)
read as 0700, but the cache saves by temp + rename and the rename
needs FILE_DELETE_CHILD on the directory. It is now a required bit.
Both only ever cost one chmod repair, never a privacy hole. The ACE scan
moves into ownerOnlyGrantedMask so readOwnerAndMode stays under the
complexity bar (it was 22 at 375f755); the scan's logic is otherwise as
before. The test oracle mirrors the rule (OWNER_RWX_MASK gains 0x40, the
SDDL DT right, any self-applying deny on a required bit is not
owner-only) and two arms pin the deny and the grant.
test/cache_ladder_windows.py runs only from the Windows arm of
test/cacheisolationcheck.sh; neither it nor the C++ change has been
executed on Windows.
