Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a configurable startup time limit for WebRTC workers, separate from the time allowed to process inputs.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved WebRTC cleanup when connections close, fail, or are cancelled, ensuring processing tasks and resources finish cleanly.
    • Reduced noisy logging for expected TURN connection errors and missing heartbeat details.
    • Tracker FPS fallback and warnings now occur only when a tracker is first created for a video.

👋 Thanks for the pull request! Here is how automated Claude review works here, so you spend credits (and reviewer time) wisely.

🚦 This PR is marked Ready for review, so automated Claude review will run — and every pass spends real credits.

Warning

💸 The Claude reviewer bills in credits, not vibes

Automated review spins up a real agent that reads real code and spends real credits on every pass. It is glad to help — but it is not a rubber duck, a linter you poke in a loop, or a substitute for reading the contributing guide. Treat it like an expensive senior reviewer whose time you booked, and show up prepared.

Draft when unsure, Ready when you mean it:

  • 🌱 Not sure the PR is in good shape yet? Keep it (or set it back) as a draft — drafts pause review, so you can push and iterate without burning credits on a moving target.
  • 💪 Feel strong about the contents? Mark it Ready for review and the reviewer will take a look.

However you get there, arrive prepared:

  • 🧱 Bring a SOLID, thorough PR. Point your local agent at our skills/ to tune it to our guidelines first — or, if you are one of those fabled carbon-based contributors, read them yourself. A half-baked diff costs exactly the same to review as a finished one.
  • ✅ Resolve every comment before you re-request review. Re-requesting with threads still open means paying twice for the same conversation.
  • 🔁 Do not use CI review as an inner loop for a local agent. The reviewer is not a step-by-step debugger — do the unfolding locally and arrive with the answer, not the search.
  • 🙋 If something looks off, ask a human. One question to a maintainer is cheaper and faster than three rounds of agent re-review chasing a misread.

Reviews are not free. A draft costs nothing to review; a Ready PR is a promise that it is worth reviewing.

  • Prefer to skip automated review entirely? Add the skip-claude-review label.

🤖 Claude review started at commit 123adcabd13a3fc7b3b272fa57fd5f56c26f9c02.

New commits are not auto-reviewed. Add the claude-review label to request a re-review — the label is consumed when the review starts, so just add it again next time.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The changes configure Modal startup, update WebRTC frame processing and session cleanup, adjust TURN and heartbeat logging, and limit tracker FPS lookup and fallback warnings to tracker creation.

Changes

Modal worker startup

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configure Modal startup and preload dependencies
inference/core/env.py, inference/core/interfaces/webrtc_worker/modal.py, tests/inference/unit_tests/core/interfaces/webrtc_worker/test_modal_imports.py
Adds a configurable 3600-second startup timeout, passes through the raw PYTHONASYNCIODEBUG value, and imports ExecutionEngine in a snapshot-enabled entry hook. A subprocess test checks imports after cancellation during initialization.

WebRTC runtime lifecycle

Layer / File(s) Summary
Complete frame work before cleanup
stream_vision/streamvision/webrtc_worker/webrtc.py, stream_vision/tests/unit_tests/webrtc_worker/test_session_cleanup.py
Frame processing waits for executor work to finish before propagating cancellation. Processor cleanup joins the workflow pipeline even if upload cleanup raises. Tests check frame completion and executor shutdown.
Track session work and centralize teardown
stream_vision/streamvision/webrtc_worker/webrtc.py, stream_vision/tests/unit_tests/webrtc_worker/test_session_cleanup.py, stream_vision/CHANGELOG.md
The session retains processing tasks and performs teardown in a finally block. Tests cover cancellation, closure, failure, setup errors, and cleanup errors. The changelog records cleanup and normal connection-closure logging changes.
Handle TURN bind failures and diagnostic logs
stream_vision/streamvision/webrtc_worker/webrtc.py, stream_vision/streamvision/webrtc_worker/watchdog.py, tests/inference/unit_tests/core/interfaces/webrtc_worker/test_turn_bind_noise.py, stream_vision/CHANGELOG.md
Task-context TURN CHANNEL_BIND failures with code 403 are logged at debug level. Other exceptions use the prior or default handler. Missing heartbeat details are logged at debug level. Tests cover the TURN handler cases.

Tracker FPS initialization

Layer / File(s) Summary
Resolve FPS when creating a tracker
workflows/roboflow_workflows/core_steps/trackers/_base.py, workflows/roboflow_workflows/core_steps/trackers/_base_tensor.py, workflows/tests/unit_tests/core_steps/trackers/test_fps_initialization.py, workflows/CHANGELOG.md
Both tracker blocks read FPS and apply the 30-fps fallback only when a video has no cached tracker. Tests check tracker FPS values and fallback warning counts.

Merge Risk

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to b1a13

The changes are mostly logging and lifecycle hardening. A few cancellation edge cases in WebRTC teardown and one test-reliability gap remain. They are bounded and unlikely to cause widespread failures, but the owner should be aware of them before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to b1a13

The change improves shutdown ordering without establishing a new privilege or access path. Some cleanup guarantees during overlapping uploads and repeated cancellation remain unproven.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — Clients able to establish a WebRTC session can supply upload bytes and workflow configuration that reach temporary-file handling, media processing and workflow execution. The relevant failure-containment scope includes session resources and the worker process. Production authorization and concurrent-tenancy details are not established sufficiently to assert a maximum cross-session or cross-tenant exposure; no widening of that exposure was demonstrated by the startup hook.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The existing Modal launch path resolves workspace identity and retains conditional usage-quota, workspace-session-quota and region controls. The worker environment continues to disable workflow blocks' environment-variable access while forwarding existing custom-execution policy settings. The new preload hook adds no request parameter or secret-return operation.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Asynchronous upload callbacks are not included in the session's processing-task drain. A callback completing late can create files or media resources after cleanup has passed. The same callback and executor pattern existed at the PR base, and the upload handler is unchanged, so this is a pre-existing ownership limitation rather than an established PR-introduced security regression. Whether peer closure drains these callbacks remains unproven.
  • inferred — The first-cancellation ordering is improved, but subsequent cancellation can interrupt unshielded frame completion or the session finalizer. The watchdog itself emits one cancellation and then exits, which limits the ordinary path. External overlapping cancellation is not proven completion-safe; the base also lacked guaranteed cleanup on cancellation, so a newly worsened security outcome has not been established.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Make shutdown explicitly own and drain upload callbacks, reject resource creation after a closing transition, and use one completion-safe cleanup operation that repeated cancellation cannot abandon. This would strengthen the remaining lifecycle guarantees; it is not a verified vulnerability finding.

64-73: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Install the interception before preloading dependencies.

_preload_workflow_dependencies() imports ExecutionEngine before the test installs the wrapper. The later import is therefore cached and cannot trigger interrupt_first_pandas_import. The unconditional signal makes the test pass without exercising interrupted import handling.

Move the preload call into the guarded section, record the interception, assert it, and remove the unconditional signal.

🟡 Minor · Protect the remaining cleanup from a second cancellation. · webrtc.py:1463-1467

stream_vision/streamvision/webrtc_worker/webrtc.py:1463-1467
🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Protect the remaining cleanup from a second cancellation.

If the session task is cancelled again while asyncio.gather(*processing_tasks, return_exceptions=True) is pending, that cancellation can exit the outer finally block before the later cleanup runs. The peer connection, tracks, processor, and usage payload cleanup can be skipped. return_exceptions=True does not suppress cancellation of the outer gather operation.

Cancellation can hang or swallow a second exception in _process_frame_async.

If the outer task is cancelled, await processing runs inside the except block. If process_frame raised, await processing raises that exception instead of the CancelledError. The cancellation is lost, and the error replaces it. If another cancellation arrives during this wait, await processing is interrupted. The inner executor thread then keeps running while teardown continues.

Use a cancellation-safe wait. Suppress executor errors during this wait. Re-raise the original CancelledError.
