Owner retest (2026-10-27): Gemini read examples passkeys (148 KB: files duplicated in text + structuredContent) and photos, ran create_app, made zero commits, and told the user it had built sign-in and the photo feed. Weak models won't hand-copy 15 files plus 3 patches; Outer now does it.
Apply enginecrates/outer/src/examples/apply.rs (pure): copies example files, renumbers db/migrations after the app's highest number, inserts nav items + Lucide icon imports at // outer:nav-items / // outer:nav-icons, bindings at // outer:bindings, resolves requires (photos → passkeys). Validate-then-write; conflicting files and missing markers refuse with the manual step. Byte-identical with outer-templates' TS engine: tests/fixtures/apply/ is a verbatim copy of scripts/apply-fixtures/ and shared_golden_cases_match_the_typescript_engine runs it.
add_example {app, name} (61st tool): one commit through the commit path (same gates, quota, awaited deploy). Re-applying is a no-op refusal.
create_app {examples}: applied into the seed tree, so one commit and one deploy. Without examples the result says nothing the user asked for exists yet.
examples {name}: README + metadata + file list (~6 KB); contents only with files: true, never duplicated.
dependencies dropped from the example contract (unused; an order-preserving package.json edit isn't possible without crate-wide preserve_order).
INSTRUCTIONS: "Start with create_app {examples} or add_example, then customise with commit…"
…#apply-examples)
One tool call turns an app into a working feature: create_app seeds
examples before the first commit; add_example resolves requires,
copies files, merges nav/bindings/deps and commits through the same
commit + gate + deploy path as commit. examples {name} now returns the
README and file list (contents with files: true); contents travel in
the text block only, never duplicated.
Rust engine crates/outer/src/examples/apply.rs follows the contract
exactly; golden fixtures in crates/outer/tests/fixtures/apply/ pin the
formatting rules for the TS engine to match.

Walkthrough
The pull request adds an example format with requirements, navigation, and resource bindings; a planner and MCP tool to apply examples; and support for seeding examples during app creation. It also updates example inspection output and agent guidance.

Summary
Example metadata and validation crates/outer/src/examples/mod.rs
Examples now use requires, navigation entries, and resource bindings instead of package dependencies. The loader validates this metadata and skips invalid examples.
Apply planning and golden cases crates/outer/src/examples/apply.rs, crates/outer/src/examples/apply/tests.rs, crates/outer/src/templates.rs, crates/outer/tests/fixtures/apply/*
The planner resolves requirements, applies files, renumbers migrations, merges navigation and bindings, and refuses conflicts. Unit tests and golden fixtures cover these behaviors.
The new add_example tool commits and deploys example changes. create_app can seed examples into its initial commit.
Example inspection and workflow guidance crates/outer/src/mcp/tools/examples.rs, crates/outer/src/examples/mod.rs, crates/outer/src/mcp/mod.rs, crates/outer/src/mcp/tools/account.rs, crates/outer/src/mcp/tools/open_app.rs, crates/outer/src/mcp/registry.rs, web/docs/agents/start-here/*, web/docs/reference/tools.md
Example inspection defaults to README and file-list output, with optional file contents and truncation reporting. MCP guidance and documentation describe listing, inspection, seeding, and application workflows.

the tree, read and list files at that SHA, and return the SHA from head_tree.
Set the commit request’s base to that captured SHA instead of None so the commit
is rejected if the main head changes.

- Around line 13-17: Repin the photos example and app starter templates after
the outer-templates#7 changes, ensuring photos declares its required bindings
and the starter includes the navigation and bindings markers used by plan_apply.
Run outer templates sync before documenting add_example or create_app as a
ready-to-use flow.

CodeRabbit round: (1) add_example now reads its tree at one head sha and commits with base: Some(head), so a concurrent commit makes it refuse with conflict instead of overwriting (baf64fb). (2) Templates repinned to merged outer-templates#7 5ff03ff (3414ef6) and synced on prod.
