Fixes failure A from the alpha.17 screenshot-check report: with screenshots on (the default for the TypeSafe API), click the first Start fact find button fails as ambiguous on a page with two identical buttons. alpha.12 and --no-screenshots pass.

Cause. resolveInCode already resolves the ordinal: it takes the first same-named button in document order. The screenshot target check then asks jev-1.14.0 how many elements could be the one the step means. It sees two identical buttons, answers "several" (≥ 0.5), and the pick is refused. That question doesn't take into account that the ordinal already chose one button.

Fix. resolveInCode now returns { target, ranked }, where ranked marks a pick by ordinal or price rank ("first", "last", "cheapest"). RuntimeSelection records it, and resolveTarget skips the target check for ranked picks. Section picks ("in the page header"), item references ("Edit for Jane") and model picks are still checked, and so are clicks without an ordinal. The diagnostic gate stays resolved_in_code.

Evidence

The gist repro was run end to end with the real CLI (Chromium 1280×900, the real TypeSafe API, locator cache cleared before every run):

Case, screenshots on alpha.17 This branch
Gist test 1: click the first Start fact find button 0 / 5 (ambiguous, calls jev-1.13.0 + jev-1.14.0) 5 / 5 passed (jev-1.13.0 only)
first / second / last on a page where each button opens a different dialog 1 / 3 3 / 3, each opened the expected dialog
Control: click the Start fact find button (no ordinal) 3 / 3 refused ambiguous 3 / 3 refused ambiguous; the check still runs

alpha.12 passed gist test 1 5 / 5, and this branch with --no-screenshots passed 2 / 2.

Regression test: locator.test.ts › screenshot target check. The model leans to the second button and the checker answers several = 0.9. With "the first", the first button must win and the checker must not be called. Without an ordinal, the checker runs and the step is refused. The ordinal case fails on main.

Checks: pnpm test (1347 passed), pnpm typecheck, pnpm lint, and prettier.

sedum-evals locator benchmark (development split, jev-1.13.0). main ran live and saved its replies. This branch then replayed them: 401/401 synthetic and 1011/1011 real-site replay hits, so both sides got the same model answers.

Suite Cases Success on answerable Wrong-action rate Correct abstain Operational failures
Synthetic, main → branch 401 90.3% → 90.3% 7.2% → 7.2% 75.8% → 75.8% 0 → 0
Real sites, main → branch 367 91.2% → 91.2% 11.2% → 11.2% 63.1% → 63.1% 0 → 0

Every case got the same score, pick and gate on both sides, including the 16 cases resolved in code. The harness doesn't enable the screenshot target check, so this shows the resolveInCode change is behavior-neutral; it doesn't measure the skip itself. The repro runs above cover the skip.

Not addressed here: failures B (a title text counted as a second click target) and C (is not shown claims about icon buttons named by aria-label) from the same report.

With screenshots on, "click the first Start fact find button" failed as
ambiguous on a page with two identical buttons. Code had already picked the
first one in document order, but the screenshot check asks how many elements
could fit the step and counts the sibling the ordinal ruled out.

resolveInCode now reports whether its pick came from an ordinal or price
rank, and the locator skips the check for those picks. Clicks without an
ordinal are still checked.

Correctness · .changeset/ordinal-skips-screenshot-check.md:5

selectByPrice(group, items, ranked.lowest) chooses by price, but the changeset says every ordinal or price rank uses document order; readers get “cheapest” click semantics wrong.

Fix: Clarify .changeset/ordinal-skips-screenshot-check.md: say ordinals use document order and price ranks use price.

🟠 CodedPick misstates how price ranks select a target · locator/lexical.ts:400

Correctness · locator/lexical.ts:400 · in Locator Engine

selectByPrice computes the unique Math.min(...prices) or maximum price, while the new CodedPick comment says price-ranked targets use document order; readers get the wrong rule for cheapest.

Fix: Rewrite the CodedPick comment and changeset to distinguish ordinal document order from selectByPrice price selection.

1. [medium, correctness] .changeset/ordinal-skips-screenshot-check.md line 5
Problem: the changeset says price ranks use document order. `selectByPrice(group, items, ranked.lowest)` chooses by price, but the changeset says every ordinal or price rank uses document order; readers get “cheapest” click semantics wrong.
Fix: Clarify `.changeset/ordinal-skips-screenshot-check.md`: say ordinals use document order and price ranks use price.
2. [medium, correctness] packages/core/src/locator/lexical.ts line 400
Problem: `CodedPick` misstates how price ranks select a target. `selectByPrice` computes the unique `Math.min(...prices)` or maximum price, while the new `CodedPick` comment says price-ranked targets use document order; readers get the wrong rule for `cheapest`.
Fix: Rewrite the `CodedPick` comment and changeset to distinguish ordinal document order from `selectByPrice` price selection.

  • Run npx skills add coldteadotai/pr-lens, then tell your coding agent: "Diagram the change you just made with PR Lens and attach it to the pull request."
  • Run npx @coldtea/pr-lens-cli analyze --base origin/main on a branch, then npx @coldtea/pr-lens-cli render .pr-lens/graph.json. Same lenses, your own model key, before the pull request exists
  • Click the link under each diagram to open it on a canvas you can zoom, pan and step through

  • The CLI's render reads .github/pr-lens.yml and applies your renames, exclusions and lane pins at draw time
  • Set github.comment.collapsed: true in .github/pr-lens.yml to fold the comment behind one View architecture and data flow row. Drawing still runs as before
  • Set github.draw: on-demand in .github/pr-lens.yml and PR Lens stops drawing pull requests on its own. Comment @pr-lens draw on a pull request when you want that one drawn
  • Add .github/workflows/pr-lens.yml with coldteadotai/pr-lens/packages/action@v0 and your model provider's key as its api-key to run PR Lens from your own CI. Any /chat/completions endpoint works
