Purpose / problem solved: Shows sustainability reference data for cloud regions (PUE, WUE, carbon-free energy, grid carbon intensity) from the Green Software Foundation (GSF) Real Time Cloud project, so teams can compare regions and providers alongside their other SquaredUp data.
Primary audience: Sustainability / GreenOps teams, platform teams and SREs choosing or reporting on cloud regions.
Authentication method(s): None. Public CSV files are read live from GSF's main branch; nothing is copied into this repo.

OOB dashboards show data as expected
Checked the dashboards' SQL by re-running the trend query logic on the GSF main CSVs.
⚠️ Known limitations
Annual reference data published about once a year, not live telemetry.
Many cells are blank because providers don't publish every metric. The EED energy and renewable energy columns are empty in GSF's data, so the streams hide them.
Azure PUE/WUE are continent-level and fiscal-year (Jul–Jun), Oracle is fiscal-year (Jun–May), and Oracle has no recent PUE/WUE. Oracle data is only on GSF's Dev branch for now.
Region Estimates reads GSF's pre-built estimate file, and the trend tiles mix those estimates into the same line as reported values. GSF's main estimate file has almost no grid carbon values, so the 2025 estimate point is mostly Google and based on few regions.
Overview, Carbon Intensity and Efficiency show each region's latest reported year, so averages can mix years.

cloud-provider, cloud-region or year headers with a clear error.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Treat omitted optional columns as null in all three stream scripts.
The parser requires only cloud-provider, cloud-region, and year. It accepts a row without optional headers, but that row has no properties for those headers. The str and num helpers then call v.toUpperCase() with undefined, so regions.js, regionMetadata.js, and regionEstimates.js throw before returning results.
Use one shared correction pattern in each duplicated converter pair:

The carbon trend binds hist and est to reachable data streams that convert missing or invalid carbon values to null. If every row for a year/provider group is null, AVG("v") returns NULL, but GROUP BY still emits the group. The dashboard then receives a provider/year row with no plottable value.
Apply the same pre-group filter already used by the PUE and WUE trends. This localized change fixes the null carbon rows without changing the estimate cutoff or the PUE/WUE logic.

The post-request script receives the parsed response body in data. regionMetadata.js currently calls parseCsv(response.body), so the script can fail before assigning result. No regionMetadata rows are emitted.

Major · Pass the parsed body to parseCsv. · regionEstimates.js:61
The post-request contract supplies the parsed CSV body as data. This script passes response.body, so parseCsv does not receive the CSV rows and the regionEstimates stream can return no rows.

Pass the parsed CSV body to parseCsv.
The post-request script receives the parsed body in data, not response.body. The current call can fail before emitting region rows, which makes the required save-time validation fail and leaves the regionId index empty.

save-time validation.
Minor · Use the populated estimate field in the trend query. · carbonIntensity.dash.json:216
Use the populated estimate field in the trend query.
regionEstimates.js maps the estimate CSV's populated grid-carbon-intensity value to gridCarbonIntensity, while gridCarbonIntensityConsumptionAnnual is null. The trend query selects the null field for estimates, then removes those rows with WHERE "v" IS NOT NULL. Later estimate points are therefore missing from the dashboard.
Suggested fix
-SELECT "e"."year", "e"."provider", "e"."gridCarbonIntensityConsumptionAnnual" FROM "est" "e"+SELECT "e"."year", "e"."provider", "e"."gridCarbonIntensity" FROM "est" "e"
This is independent of post-request script failures. The query can exclude estimate points even when the stream imports successfully.
