On May 19th of 2026, Google announced they're moving their terminal experience from Gemini CLI over to Antigravity CLI, and putting their effort into the Antigravity platform instead of Gemini CLI and the Gemini Code Assist IDE extensions. Starting June 18, 2026, Gemini CLI stopped serving requests for Google AI Pro, Ultra and free tier individual accounts.
Why this matters
Anyone on Google AI Pro/Ultra subscriptions can only use Antigravity CLI's harness now for AI coding tasks, Gemini CLI's isn't an option for them anymore.
To be clear, Gemini CLI's support didn't end, it's still Apache 2.0 and still getting commits (last one was 2 days ago at the time of writing). But per Google's announcement that work is scoped to model updates, bug fixes and security fixes for enterprise customers, everything new is going into Antigravity. Enterprise Code Assist licenses and paid API keys are unaffected.
With that being said I wanted to open this thread to raise the importance of supporting Antigravity CLI here. Is there any appetite for adding Antigravity CLI support so Pro/Ultra users aren't locked out?
I'm planning to contribute to this project, to roll this feature as soon as possible.
