Calisphere search terms quirk - searching the full collection title produces results, but searching only some of the terms found in the collection title produces 0 results

When I search Calisphere sitewide for the collection title (A Centennial Exhibit from the Nine Campuses of the University of California) - I get 57 item records + 1 collection in my search results:
https://calisphere.org/search/?q=A%20Centennial%20Exhibit%20from%20the%20Nine%20Campuses%20of%20the%20University%20of%20California

But when you drop the "a" from the beginning, (Centennial Exhibit from the Nine Campuses of the University of California) - you get nothing:
