ARCHive
ARCHive is a storage system built by the libraries that holds preservation copies of objects for secure, long-term storage. It keeps two copes on LTO tape, one copy on spinning disk, and now optionally, one copy sent to AWS.
In BMA, we write individual objects to ARCHive as AIPs, or archival information packages, which are in simple terms just neatly put-together zipped up folders of the object and related metadata. Our AIPs are always named to match the unique ID, but as unique ID conventions have changed over our history, sometimes this is not perfect (but it is very close). We create collection records in ARCHive for all of our held collections once an item from that collection is written to ARCHive for the first time.
To search for an item in ARCHive, please see the Retrieving page.
