Expected errors can carry producer-owned structured diagnostics in context.details. The data is plain JSON, snapshotted when the error is created, and rendered whole in --json, text and MCP refusals within a declared 4,096-byte / depth-8 ceiling. Anything larger or malformed becomes a details_omitted receipt. Telemetry and Sentry never receive it.
A typed refusal (e.g. likely_duplicate) is no longer headlined "Invalid argument value" because interpolated data (a candidate title containing "requires" or "must be") matched a substring heuristic.
--field <key>=… for a key the project schema declares now refuses with project_schema_field_requires_declared_flag. The refusal names the declared flag and SDK option, and on the CLI gives an executable suggested_retry_args that rewrites only that assignment.
A command edit through pm test --set-json / updateLinkedTest refuses with linked_test_command_immutable and returns the supported atomic replacement (remove the selected entry and add the new command in one tests_add event with fresh provenance). Other unsupported patch keys get linked_test_patch_fields_unsupported with the editable domain.
Bounded extension-handler diagnostics (errorMessage, errorCode, remediation) no longer split a surrogate pair at the 300-unit cutoff.
Design notes
details contract (src/core/shared/error-details.ts): leaves are null, booleans, finite numbers and well-formed strings; containers are arrays and plain objects; __proto__ keys are refused. createPmCliExpectedError throws a TypeError naming the reason and path, so a package test catches a malformed payload. Size depends on the data, so it is bounded at render time (whole or nothing) rather than refused. New SDK exports: PM_CLI_ERROR_DETAILS_LIMITS, isPmCliErrorDetails, PmCliErrorDetails, PmCliErrorDetailValue, PmCliErrorDetailsOmission, PmCliErrorDetailsRejection. The public-surface change is additive and acknowledged in sdk/public-surface.json.
Privacy: the telemetry classification is built without details; captured faults strip it from error_context; beforeSend scrubs it from Sentry's error-data contexts and extras.
MCP: errorContent/writeError now recognize separately bundled expected errors by shape (previously only instanceof PmCliError) and bound details exactly as the CLI does.
Text rendering uses indented JSON for the Details: block. error-guidance is on the runtime-compatibility boundary that must work without installed runtime dependencies, so it cannot import the TOON encoder.
The last Codex pass and a confirmation pass on the final head report no findings. Every finding was verified, fixed with a regression test, and recorded on its pm item; two concurrency findings are deferred to pm-5igljl. The main design changes since the first push:
Admission is bounded and getter-free. It reads own data descriptors only and never runs accessors. It counts compact-JSON bytes while walking and stops at the ceiling. A constant-time lower bound refuses huge strings and keys before any scan or encoding. Array lengths are read once and validated. Proxy faults, including a thrown revoked proxy, become unsupported_value.
Oversized details become a host-set details_omitted receipt at construction (PmCliErrorContext.details_omitted), so a refusal cannot change after it is raised. --json uses the same receipt (diagnostic_budget) when details would push the pretty-printed envelope past the error diagnostic budget.
Foreign contexts are read once as plain data (snapshotPmCliErrorContext) at the CLI and MCP boundaries. MCP admits diagnostics before serializing anything, serializes the remaining fields once, ignores a context toJSON, and falls back to { code, context_unserializable }. isPmCliExpectedError is total.
Crash reports carry an error context only as its top-level primitives (crashReportErrorContext). The Sentry error-data entry is rebuilt whole from the original exception, because the integration serializes the error, including any error-level toJSON, before beforeSend. Serialized copies whose original is unrecoverable are discarded: embedded contexts become {} and console arguments become [].
Schema-field routes and SDK hints are advertised only when provably exact. The parsed option key must belong to this field alone, judged by the key Commander really stores (dotted, negated and short spellings included). It must not be a host option; the reservation is pinned by a spec to every key the update/create normalizers write, including the ownership-bypass keys. No earlier-read key may be able to shadow it, and no storage-key twin may be active for the command. The runtime reader (readRuntimeFieldOptionValue) now also reads Commander's literal key for dotted flags, fixing a pre-existing case where such a flag set nothing.
The linked-test replacement retry refuses identity collisions, conflicting command/cmd, pm test-all, and invalid or null-scope companion fields. It carries --author/--message/--force and the tracker scope, and the catalog derives its real exit code (2).
Verification
New specs: tests/unit/core/shared/error-details.spec.ts plus cases in the error-guidance, MCP, Sentry helper/instrument, SDK index, item-fields, projection/field retry, update-command, extensions-runtime and linked-test-editing specs.
tests/integration/telemetry/extension-error-provenance.spec.ts runs the built CLI under Node and Bun against real local OTLP and Sentry collectors. A separately bundled refusal's marked details reaches stderr whole, and the marker never appears in collected events, logs or telemetry.
DeepScan reports 0 new issues; its one finding (NULL_POINTER in an integration spec) was read through its dashboard API and fixed.
Negative controls: the published 2026.11.1 error-guidance returns title: "Invalid argument value" for the duplicate input; with the unicodeSafePrefix change stashed, the astral-cutoff spec fails.
Local gates on the final source: full coverage suite (11,898 tests, 100/100/100/100 exact), pnpm lint including quality:static, every repository-assurance gate, mutation (98.0, 0 failures) and the package-artifact gate.
Found while verifying and filed separately: pm-93hfja. tests/unit/sdk/author-attribution.spec.ts passes only where a harness identity is detectable, because in-process runInit records an unknown-author settings:write. It fails identically on main.
Five refusal-contract items, delivered together:
- GH-1631 (pm-gh1631): expected errors can carry producer-owned
structured diagnostics in PmCliErrorContext.details. The value is plain
JSON admitted by src/core/shared/error-details.ts. createPmCliExpectedError
snapshots it and throws a TypeError naming the reason and path on a
malformed shape. Hosts render it whole within PM_CLI_ERROR_DETAILS_LIMITS
(4,096 bytes, depth 8) in --json, text and MCP refusals, otherwise as a
details_omitted receipt. The telemetry classification never carries it;
captured faults strip it from error_context and Sentry beforeSend scrubs
it from error-data contexts. MCP now recognizes separately bundled
expected errors by shape. New SDK exports: PM_CLI_ERROR_DETAILS_LIMITS,
isPmCliErrorDetails, projectPmCliErrorDetails,
projectPmCliErrorContextDetails and the related types.
- pm-btv6x7: message substring heuristics (" must be ", " requires ")
classify only untyped refusals, and a typed code that overrides a
generic class takes the message's first line as its headline. A
likely_duplicate refusal whose candidate title happened to contain one
of those phrases no longer reads as "Invalid argument value".
- pm-wftvem: a --field key the project schema declares refuses with
project_schema_field_requires_declared_flag, naming the declared flag,
SDK option and schema show-field. The CLI rewrites exactly that --field
token into an executable suggested_retry_args.
- pm-1rfy0y: a command edit through pm test --set-json or updateLinkedTest
refuses with linked_test_command_immutable and returns the supported
atomic replacement (remove the selected entry and add the new command in
one tests_add event with fresh provenance). Other unsupported patch keys
refuse with linked_test_patch_fields_unsupported and the editable domain.
- pm-y4v90c: bounded extension handler diagnostics use unicodeSafePrefix,
so a cutoff never leaves a lone surrogate.
The text Details block is indented JSON because error-guidance sits on the
runtime-compatibility boundary that must load without installed runtime
dependencies. Hosts import the diagnostics helpers through sdk/errors to
keep the SDK import boundary intact.
Verification: full coverage suite green (11,886 tests) apart from the
author-attribution spec, which fails identically on main in a plain shell
and is filed as pm-93hfja. A real-collector integration test (Node and
Bun) proves diagnostics reach the agent and never the local OTLP or Sentry
collectors. Generated error catalog, contracts snapshot and SDK public
surface regenerated; the two signature changes are additive and
acknowledged. The changelog is regenerated from the closed items.

Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Structured diagnostics can appear in CLI, JSON, and MCP error responses, with size limits and omission notices.
Project-schema field refusals identify the declared CLI flag and SDK option, with retry guidance when available.
Linked-test command edits are refused with guidance for replacing the selected entry while retaining its other metadata. Relist linked tests before retrying if other changes may have occurred.
Bug Fixes
Typed errors show more relevant headlines, and bounded extension diagnostics preserve Unicode characters.
Diagnostic details are excluded from telemetry and crash reports.
Documentation
Updated SDK, extension, and linked-test editing guidance.
This PR adds bounded structured diagnostics to expected errors, project-schema field recovery guidance, and refusals with replacement guidance for linked-test command edits. It also updates typed refusal headlines, makes extension diagnostic truncation Unicode-safe, and records related project issues and registry findings.
Expected errors can carry validated structured details. Admission copies supported JSON values and applies an eight-container depth limit and a 4,096-byte limit. Projection returns the details or an omission receipt.
CLI and MCP output include projected details or omission receipts. Sentry capture paths remove producer diagnostics from error contexts and embedded event data.
Typed refusal titles use the message’s first line in specified cases. Extension-handler messages and structured string fields retain their 300-unit limits and use Unicode-safe truncation.
Create and update field parsing distinguishes schema fields from extension and reserved core fields. Schema-field refusals include declared-flag and SDK-option guidance.
Metadata updates refuse linked-test command changes. Valid replacement metadata receives a remove-and-add retry; invalid metadata, empty patches, unsupported fields, recursive commands, and identity collisions are refused. A separate issue record describes races possible between the two mutations.

Explanation
Active direct link: #1631. Its coding requirements are:
Expected errors accept an extension-owned, JSON-serializable diagnostic slot. Evidence: PmCliErrorContext.details in src/core/shared/errors.ts; createPmCliExpectedError admits context.details in src/sdk/errors.ts; admission and snapshotting are in src/core/shared/error-details.ts.
The host renders the slot in JSON error output under a size budget. Evidence: src/cli/error-guidance.ts renders details in JSON envelopes and text. Oversized details become a details_omitted receipt (4,096 bytes, depth 8) or a diagnostic_budget receipt. src/mcp/server.ts applies the same bounds.
Telemetry and Sentry exclude the slot. Evidence: telemetry classification is built without details. src/core/sentry/instrument.ts and helpers.ts remove details from error contexts, extras and breadcrumbs.
Tests named in the PR cover these paths: unit specs for error-details, error-guidance, MCP, Sentry and SDK index. An integration spec runs the built CLI against local OTLP and Sentry collectors.
Limits of this assessment: it relies on the PR summary and test descriptions, not a source read in this pass. The issue also asks for redaction. The evidence shows admission limits and telemetry/Sentry exclusion, not a separate redaction step. The issue proposal names --json output, which the summary covers. Generated catalog files listed as ignored were not used for this verdict.

Explanation
The only active linked issue is #1631, the expected-error diagnostics contract. The current head keeps four feature groups that the linked issue does not request:
Typed refusal headline classification (pm-btv6x7): src/cli/error-guidance.ts headline logic and its tests in tests/unit/cli/error-guidance.spec.ts.
Project-schema --field routing (pm-wftvem): src/cli/runtime/field-route-retry.ts, src/core/schema/runtime-field-values.ts (including the dotted-flag read fix), src/sdk/lifecycle/core-field-recovery.ts, create.ts, update.ts, src/core/extensions/item-fields.ts, related specs, and the project_schema_field_requires_declared_flag code.
Linked-test command replacement (pm-1rfy0y, with follow-up pm-5igljl): src/sdk/test/update.ts, linked-command-detection.ts, execution.ts, entry.ts, the linked-test integration spec, docs/LINKED_TEST_EDITS.md, and the codes linked_test_command_immutable and linked_test_patch_fields_unsupported.
Unicode-safe handler diagnostic truncation (pm-y4v90c): src/core/extensions/extension-hook-runtime.ts and its regression test in extensions-runtime.spec.ts.
The summary also shows activation-failure logging in src/sdk/runtime.ts (describeActivationFailure). It has no link to #1631 in the summary. The PR also contains pm tracker records for these items, a dependency census chore (pm-ogzvx6) and a release reminder (pm-7zs0). None of these supports #1631.
The change since the previous review does not alter this finding. The PR description still lists these four items as part of this PR.
The #1631 diagnostics code, its tests, its docs and its generated artifacts are in scope.
Resolution
Move these changes to separate pull requests, each linked to its own issue:
pm-btv6x7: the error-guidance.ts headline changes and their tests.
pm-wftvem: the schema-field routing files listed above, their tests, and the docs/EXTENSIONS.md schema-field text.
pm-1rfy0y (and pm-5igljl if it stays open): the src/sdk/test/* changes, the linked-test integration spec, and docs/LINKED_TEST_EDITS.md.
pm-y4v90c: the extension-hook-runtime.ts change and its regression test.
Unless a link to #1631 is shown, also move the src/sdk/runtime.ts activation-failure logging change and the unrelated pm tracker records (pm-ogzvx6, pm-7zs0).
Remove the matching codes (linked_test_command_immutable, linked_test_patch_fields_unsupported, project_schema_field_requires_declared_flag) from sdk/public-surface.json, tests/fixtures/contracts/full.json, and the regenerated error-code catalog. Remove the matching CHANGELOG entries and the docs/SDK.md and docs/EXTENSIONS.md text that describes them. Keep the #1631 diagnostics implementation, its tests, its docs and its generated artifacts in this pull request.

This PR tightens refusal contracts across CLI, SDK, MCP, and observability: expected errors now carry validated, snapshotted producer diagnostics with bounded rendering and strict privacy isolation; typed refusals retain their real condition and actionable recovery; schema-field and linked-test edits provide precise routes or atomic replacements; and extension diagnostics are truncated without corrupting Unicode.

Producer diagnostics (GH-1631):
- Scrub every embedded error context (*.context, *.error_context) in
outgoing Sentry events and transactions, including console-capture
arguments and breadcrumbs. The shallow scrub left extra.arguments copies
intact.
- The createPmCliExpectedError shape fault names only the reason; the
producer-derived path is a non-enumerable property, so a captured fault
never carries producer keys.
- Count compact-JSON bytes while walking and stop at the ceiling, so
shared or repeated references cannot amplify admission work (8 levels of
10 shared slots no longer expand 10^8 leaves). The receipt drops the
now-unmeasured byte_length; the type is unreleased, and the SDK surface
change is acknowledged.
- Cap omission paths at 160 UTF-8 bytes without splitting a character.
- Refuse accessor properties without running them, on the details slot
(CLI, MCP and telemetry omission) and inside values. Oversized
well-formed details are kept as given and render as a byte_limit receipt.
Linked-test replacement (pm-1rfy0y):
- Refuse to advertise a retry whose replacement would have the same
identity as another entry: the add path would deduplicate it and the
retry would delete the selected entry. linkedTestsHaveSameIdentity moves
to entry.ts and is shared by both paths.
- Validate the rest of the patch (unsupported keys, scope:null, values
parsed exactly as --add-json parses them) before building the retry, so
no requested field is silently dropped.
Schema-field routing (pm-wftvem): derive the advertised SDK option with
runtimeFieldSdkOptionName, the normalizer readRuntimeFieldOptionValue reads
with, so a dotted cli_flag advertises reviewUrl rather than review.url.
Full coverage suite at 100/100/100/100 exact, and the full lint chain,
assurance, mutation and package gates pass locally.

Scope the construction-time shape guarantee to details within the byte ceiling.
The docstring says a malformed shape throws at construction, but it does not say that this check is skipped once details exceed the ceiling. When an oversized value precedes a malformed field, construction succeeds and the malformed field is not reported. The refusal renders only as a byte_limit receipt. The docstring should state this precedence.

Review comment at @src/sdk/errors.ts at line 191:
Update the construction-time shape-check docstring near the `byte_limit`
admission branch to clarify that validation stops at the byte ceiling: oversized
diagnostics are retained and render as a `byte_limit` receipt, and malformed
values beyond the ceiling are not checked during construction.

Reject oversized strings and keys before scanning them.
copyDetailLeaf runs LONE_SURROGATE.test and JSON.stringify on a string before charge() can stop admission at 4,096 bytes. copyDetailObject does the same for each key, through childPath and JSON.stringify, before it charges the key. A multi-megabyte value is therefore fully scanned and copied before it is refused. The admission doc comment says that cost is bounded by the ceiling, which is not true for a single oversized leaf or key.
The cost is linear in the size of the value. It does not compound, and the extension already holds that value in memory. Container traversal is bounded because containers are charged before iteration. Add a length check before the scan. A UTF-8 JSON string is at least value.length + 2 bytes, so a string longer than max_bytes always exceeds the limit. Keys need the same check before childPath runs.

Add early length checks in copyDetailLeaf and copyDetailObject so oversized
strings and keys are rejected with the byte_limit error before Unicode scanning,
childPath construction, or JSON serialization; use the existing max_bytes limit
and preserve the current checks and charging for values within the limit.
The text check asserts only the Details: heading and the "excluded_status": 1 count. The renderer emits the whole details object, so the marker appears in the same text block. A regression that drops only marker from text output would still pass this test. The JSON check already asserts the marker, so the text path lacks equivalent coverage.

Add an assertion in the text-output checks of the extension error provenance
test that `text.stderr` contains `PRODUCER_DIAGNOSTIC_MARKER`, alongside the
existing details assertions, so the text path verifies the producer marker.
Add a CLI-level assertion for the schema-field retry payload.
The new tests call repairSchemaFieldRecovery directly. No test runs the project_schema_field_requires_declared_flag refusal through buildPmCliRecoveryContext, which is the only path that calls repairInvocationRecovery. If the call at src/cli/main.ts:410 is disconnected, or the suggested_retry_args branch at src/cli/main.ts:428 stops preserving the repaired args, the current suite still passes.
Add one assertion to a CLI-level test. Run pm update <id> --field gate_evidence=... through the CLI, using the schema setup from the SDK test at tests/unit/commands/lifecycle/update-command.spec.ts:4007-4053. Assert that recovery.suggested_retry_args contains --gate-evidence.

Execute the shared-command index retry in the integration suite.
The index-fallback retry at tests/integration/linked-tests/linked-test-editing.integration.spec.ts:313-319 is checked only as an argument array: it must contain --remove-index with value 1. No test runs those arguments. The only executed advertised retry uses node -e 1, a command that appears once in its fixture. The shared-command branch is therefore never executed. A future change that makes an index retry also remove same-command entries would not fail the suite.
Add a case that seeds two entries with the same command, replaces one of them, runs the advertised --remove-index retry through the same execution path as the existing executed retry, and asserts that the selected entry is removed while its same-command peer remains.

Producer diagnostics (GH-1631):
- The CLI attaches recovery to a descriptor-preserving copy of a typed
context, so a separately bundled error's details getter is never run
during enrichment (frozen contexts included). The renderer reports it as
an unsupported_value receipt.
- The root shape check runs inside the guarded walk, so a proxy whose
getPrototypeOf trap throws yields a receipt instead of escaping.
Typed headlines (pm-btv6x7): the fallback title cuts by code points and
never splits a surrogate pair.
Schema-field routing (pm-wftvem): the advertised SDK option is the first
name the reader accepts for this field that no other declared field
accepts (flag-derived first, then key-derived). It is omitted when every
name is shared. Each advertised option is verified to set exactly one
field.
Linked-test replacement (pm-1rfy0y):
- Conflicting command and cmd values refuse instead of silently picking
one, matching the add parser.
- A replacement invoking pm test-all refuses with the recursion reason
instead of advertising a retry the add path would refuse. The recursion
guard and its helpers move from execution.ts to
linked-command-detection.ts so update.ts shares it without an import
cycle.
- Explicit --author, --message and --force of the refused edit are carried
into the retry, so ownership and provenance match the request.
- The refusal is split into resolveRequestedCommand, admitReplacementEntry
and replacementControlArgs to stay under the complexity cap.
Full coverage suite at 100/100/100/100 exact (11,891 tests), and the lint
chain, assurance, mutation and package gates pass locally.
Producer diagnostics (GH-1631):
- Read a foreign error context once as plain data
(snapshotPmCliErrorContext) at both host boundaries. No getter runs, a
details accessor becomes an unsupported_value receipt, and an
uninspectable proxy context becomes an empty object. This replaces the
descriptor-preserving copy in the CLI and guards MCP, where a hostile
context previously prevented any response.
- MCP forwards { code, context_unserializable: true } when JSON cannot
encode a context (for example a bigint member), so the response is still
written.
- Oversized details become the host-set receipt
details_omitted: { reason: "byte_limit", byte_limit } at construction
instead of a live reference, so later mutation cannot change the
refusal. PmCliErrorContext declares details_omitted as host-owned;
renderers re-validate and re-bound it, and telemetry omission removes it
too, since its path can echo producer keys. snapshotPmCliErrorContext is
exported for custom hosts.
Schema-field routing (pm-wftvem): when declarations share a storage key,
route through the one whose commands include the current command, and
narrow the docs to the actual lookup order (extension declarations first).
Linked-test replacement (pm-1rfy0y): an own undefined patch value means
"not supplied", so the selected entry's scope is kept; only null clears.
The SDK retry hint names the tracker argument. The two remaining review
findings (binding the retry's removal to the refused entry, and re-checking
the identity inside the retry) require an atomic replacement under one item
lock; filed as pm-5igljl and noted in LINKED_TEST_EDITS.md.
Full coverage suite at 100/100/100/100 exact (11,892 tests), and the
complete lint chain including mutation, plus the package gate, pass locally.

Schema-field routing (pm-wftvem):
- Advertise a CLI flag only when it sets the refused field alone.
runtimeFieldCliFlagRoute picks the declared flag or an alias that is not
a host flag and whose parsed option key no other declared field and no
host option reads. Otherwise the refusal offers no executable retry and
asks for a distinct cli_flag.
- Exclude host option names (update/create option contracts and global
flags) from SDK option hints, so cli_flag "title" can no longer advertise
an option that also sets the core title.
- Commander stores a dotted flag under its literal key (--review.url parses
to options["review.url"]). The runtime reader now checks that key for the
declared flag and each alias, fixing a pre-existing case where such a
flag silently set nothing, and the route judges ambiguity by it.
- Ambiguity is computed by definition identity, not metadata_key.
Producer diagnostics (GH-1631):
- MCP serializes the snapshotted context exactly once (toJSON hooks run
there) and bounds details on the plain result, so a serializer can
neither swap unbounded diagnostics back in nor fail on a second call.
- Recorded details_omitted receipts are read through own data descriptors,
and accessor-backed fields are rejected without running.
- createPmCliExpectedError treats context: null as no context again.
The over-complex routing test is split in two with a shared helper.
Full coverage suite at 100/100/100/100 exact, and the complete lint chain
including mutation, plus the package gate, pass locally.

Producer diagnostics (GH-1631): MCP admits details from the snapshotted
context with the bounded, getter-free walk before serializing anything,
then serializes only the remaining host fields once. A context-level toJSON
is ignored, so serialization can neither run a getter inside details,
expand shared references past the ceiling, nor replace the diagnostics.
Schema-field routing (pm-wftvem):
- Commander files a negating flag's value under the un-negated name
(--no-title sets title). commanderOptionAttribute strips no- for the
route and host reservation. The runtime reader does not read negated
spellings, because that key belongs to another option.
- The host reservation is built from the command's full flag contract
(resolveSubcommandFlagContractsForCommand) plus global flags,
registration targets and the SDK-only update keys, typed against
UpdateCommandOptions. Directly registered controls such as --force and
--clear-tests can therefore never be advertised.
- Ambiguity only counts fields active for the command, so a create-only
field no longer suppresses a valid update route.
Full coverage suite at 100/100/100/100 exact (11,893 tests), and the
complete lint chain including mutation, plus the package gate, pass locally.

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Remove the unsafe optional-chain cast.
Static analysis reports eslint/no-unsafe-optional-chaining on this line. The expression (sdkRefusal?.context?.recovery as {...}).suggested_retry_args dereferences the result of an optional chain. If sdkRefusal is undefined, the test throws a TypeError instead of a clear assertion failure.
Use non-null assertions. The toMatchObject check on Line 253 already proves sdkRefusal and its context exist. This also removes the lint diagnostic. The evidence does not show that CI runs this rule, so treat the fix as hygiene.
Proposed fix
- const sdkArgs = (sdkRefusal?.context?.recovery as { suggested_retry_args: string[] }).suggested_retry_args;+ const sdkArgs = (sdkRefusal!.context!.recovery as { suggested_retry_args: string[] }).suggested_retry_args;

Schema-field routing (pm-wftvem):
- Never advertise a negating spelling (no-x) as a route: Commander files its
value under x, which the field never reads, so following it set nothing.
- Render a short alias with its single dash (-r rather than ---r) through
runtimeFieldFlagToken. Compute Commander's key after stripping leading
dashes, and reserve the command's short flags too.
Producer diagnostics (GH-1631): isPmCliExpectedError is total. A value
whose context cannot even be inspected (a revoked proxy fails Array.isArray)
is not a usable refusal, so MCP, the CLI and Sentry fall back to the generic
error path instead of throwing.
Docs: the producer-diagnostics subsection moves below the structured-result
example in docs/SDK.md, so it no longer captures the token-budget
paragraphs that follow it.

Schema-field routing (pm-wftvem): the collectors resolve a storage-key
collision differently (update keeps the first supplied value, create the
last). Rather than model per-command precedence, routes and SDK hints are
withheld for every declaration that shares its metadata_key with another
declaration active for the same command (hasStorageTwin). This is safe in
both directions and covered for create and update.
Producer diagnostics (GH-1631): a context-level toJSON alone now triggers
the custom-host projection and the telemetry omission, which drop it. A
context without details could otherwise be returned unchanged with a
serializer able to emit oversized diagnostics. The extension-activation
log uses describeUnknownError.
Full coverage suite exact apart from the activation-log branch removed
here, and the complete lint chain including mutation passes locally.
Schema-field routing (pm-wftvem): reserve ownershipMetadataBypass and
ownershipDependencyBypass. They are internal update keys that no flag
declares: normalizeUpdateOptions clobbers a CLI value for them, and an SDK
true activates an ownership bypass. hostOwnedOptions is exported, and a spec
pins the reservation to every key that normalizeUpdateOptions and
normalizeCreateOptions write, so a future internal key cannot be missed
silently.
Producer diagnostics (GH-1631): projectPmCliErrorContextDetails and
omitPmCliErrorDetails always return a plain own-data copy, never the
original object, so a serializer (own or inherited from a context class)
cannot survive projection and emit unbounded diagnostics.
Full coverage suite at 100/100/100/100 exact and the complete lint chain
including mutation pass locally.

Schema-field routing (pm-wftvem):
- A bulk update-many row now resolves --field project-schema guidance
under the update_many scope instead of update. An update_many-only
field is routed to its declared flag rather than told that update
cannot set it. update-many reserves the union of the update row
surface and its own selection flags as host-owned options, and the
text names pm update-many and the update options of the update-many
request.
- No route or executable retry is offered when the same invocation
already sets the field through a declared flag, alias, SDK option or
in-scope storage twin. Such a retry would carry two values for one
field, and Commander or reader precedence would silently keep one.
The check is producer-side and uses readRuntimeFieldOptionValue, the
reader the mutation applies, so aliases are covered where an argv scan
in the CLI could not see them. It excludes the refused --field input
itself, so a declaration aliased to "field" does not self-conflict.
Activation diagnostics (pm-gh1631):
- The SDK activation-failure stderr line logs the error's stack, so the
failing import or activate() frame stays diagnosable. The stack is
read once under try/catch and only a string is ever logged. A hostile
or changing getter cannot break the no-extension fallback or hand
console capture an object that carries producer diagnostics.
Linked-test replacement (pm-1rfy0y):
- The refusal no longer calls the remove-plus-add retry atomic. It
names the selection-by-command-or-position risk and tells agents to
re-list first when another writer may have changed the tests. The
race itself stays owned by pm-5igljl.
- docs/SDK.md: state the real text-renderer ladder. It drops the
explanation (why) first and then the Details: block, together with
the example and next-step limits. A block dropped this way gets no
"Details omitted:" line, only the generic notice that points to
--json, which keeps the details.
- linked-test-editing integration: the replaced entry now carries the
non-default scope "global". The retry, the executed replacement and
the undefined-scope retention case would otherwise pass even if the
scope were dropped and the parser fell back to "project". The
identity-collision case sets scope "project" explicitly, because
scope is part of a linked test's identity.
- pm-btv6x7 is retitled to describe the shipped behavior, and
CHANGELOG.md is regenerated from it.
- pm-7zs0: the expired one-shot release-health reminder is re-armed
for 2026-11-03T06:00Z. That cut is the first to contain this PR,
