Closes #46

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Add SavingsPlanDetails.Currency and send it in the purchase and validate
bodies and in GetOfferingDetails instead of a hardcoded USD. Empty or
non-ISO-4217 values fail closed.

An unrecognized currency can reach Azure, and the field documentation could lead callers to supply the wrong currency. Correct both before relying on this contract; neither establishes a broad release-blocking failure.

Opus merge-gate review: REQUEST CHANGES at fc1eb87

Reviewer: claude-opus-5-5, independent. Branch is up to date with main (origin/main is an ancestor of the head).

Blocking (1)

B1. providers/azure does not build standalone; CI Unit Tests fails on this SHA. providers/azure/go.mod:18 pins cloud-commitments-go/pkg v0.0.0-20261009181525-30bf383795db, and that version has no SavingsPlanDetails.Currency. The go.work build passes. The CI step "Verify standalone provider modules" (GOWORK=off, ci.yml:294) fails:

services/savingsplans/client.go:293:28: d.Currency undefined (type *common.SavingsPlanDetails has no field or method Currency)

I reproduced it locally with cd providers/azure && GOWORK=off go build -mod=readonly ./... (exit 1). This is a real defect: CLI, MCP and platform use the azure module through its own go.mod. The fix is the repo's usual two-step for cross-module changes (see #329 then #335): land the pkg/common field first, then bump the pkg pins (azure, aws, gcp, ci_cd_sanity_tests go.mod/go.sum) to that main commit in the azure PR.

Verified (no other blocking findings)

  1. No USD literal is left in the Azure SP purchase, validate or offering path. The only CurrencyCode sites are client.go:351 and :449 (&currency), plus Currency: currency at :544. Other Azure "USD" hits are out of scope: RI recommendation guards in internal/recommendations/consumption.go, plus mocks and fixtures. convertSavingsPlan still drops the currency (go#124, as the PR body says).
  2. Helper, probed at the head. Rejected: "", " eur", "EURO", full-width EUR/eur, "İNR", "usd\n", and a value with a zero-width space. Accepted: "eur"->EUR, EUR, JPY. On the 'no silent fallback' rule: upper-casing a valid code changes its format, not its value, so it is acceptable. The lowercase test fails before the fix (expected EUR, actual USD).
  3. Against the pre-fix client.go (main's client.go with this PR's types and tests), the JPY test fails at all three sites (expected "JPY", actual "USD" three times). The FailsClosed test also fails (a nil-poller panic, because purchase reached BeginCreate).
  4. The Currency field is additive. The only non-test struct literals are in this repo's parser_sp.go:251 (AWS, keyed) and the codec, and in MCP's tools/aws_savingsplans.go:210 (keyed). Old persisted Details decode to "" and fail closed. GetRecommendations returns an empty slice, so nothing emits Azure SP recs today.
  5. With an empty or bad currency, ValidateOffering never calls ValidatePurchase (rp.calls == 0), and purchase never calls BeginCreate (alias.calls == 0).
  6. The PR body has Closes #46 and the go#124 note. The GetRecommendations godoc contract is present. Labels match go#46.
  7. Local results with go.work: go test ./providers/azure/... ./pkg/common/... passes, golangci-lint (GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.9) reports 0 issues in pkg and providers/azure, and git secrets --scan is clean. CI: everything passes except Unit Tests (B1). Mock-based evidence only; no live Azure.
  8. Mutation run (one run, 10 mutants on changed lines): 10/10 killed (regex anchors, ToUpper removed, TrimSpace added, USD restored at each of the 3 sites, each of the 3 error returns dropped).

Non-blocking follow-ups

  • CHANGELOG says "non-ISO-4217 values fail closed", but the check is format-only: XXX, XTS or ABC pass and lowercase is upper-cased. Suggested wording: "empty or malformed (not three ASCII letters) values fail closed; Azure rejects a currency that does not match the billing account".
  • strings.ToUpper maps ı (dotless i) and ſ (long s) to ASCII, so "ınr"->INR and "ſek"->SEK are accepted. The real source is Azure's ASCII currencyCode, so this is harmless, but matching ^[A-Za-z]{3}$ before upper-casing would make the "no silent normalisation" claim exact.

cristim and others added 2 commits October 12, 2026 21:25
Validate the currency as 3 ASCII letters before upper-casing, bump the pkg
pins to the commit that adds SavingsPlanDetails.Currency, and reword the
changelog (format-only check).

Step 2 after #345: merged main, bumped pkg pins to 3838efd in providers/aws, azure, gcp and ci_cd_sanity_tests (standalone GOWORK=off build and tests pass), helper now validates ^[A-Za-z]{ 3 } before upper-casing (adds 'ınr' and 'ſek' cases), CHANGELOG says format-only. Ready for gate.

Opus merge-gate re-review: APPROVE at 18f7cec

Reviewer: claude-opus-5-5, independent. This re-gate follows the request-changes at fc1eb87; the earlier 10/10 mutation run stands and was not repeated.

Previous blocker B1 fixed. All four modules pin pkg at v0.0.0-20261012192523-3838efd56668, which matches go commit 3838efd (#345, committed 2026-10-12 19:25:23 UTC). There are no replace directives. The go.mod and go.sum diffs touch only the pkg line(s), so there is no other dependency drift. For providers/aws, providers/azure, providers/gcp and ci_cd_sanity_tests, with GOWORK=off: go build -mod=readonly, go vet, go mod tidy -diff and go mod verify all exit 0. go test -short passes for aws, azure and gcp. CI "Unit Tests" and "CI Success" are green on this SHA, and every other check passes.

Diff vs main covers only the helper, the three call sites, the tests, the CHANGELOG and the pin bumps. The types.go hunk is gone (#345 carries it). The branch is up to date: origin/main 3838efd is an ancestor of the head.

Helper. ^[A-Za-z]{3}$ is matched before strings.ToUpper. At the head, "", " eur", EURO, E1R, us, ınr and ſek fail closed with no ValidatePurchase or BeginCreate call, and eur becomes EUR. With fc1eb87's helper swapped in, the ınr subtest fails, so the new cases are not vacuous. Against main's pre-fix client.go, the JPY test fails at all three sites (expected "JPY", actual "USD" three times). The CHANGELOG now says the check is format-only, not ISO 4217 membership, and the "reject it" claims in the godoc are accurate.

Other checks. Local golangci-lint (go1.26.9) reports 0 issues in pkg and providers/azure. git secrets --scan is clean. Labels match go#46, and the body has Closes #46. All evidence is mock-based; nothing ran against live Azure.

Outdated CodeRabbit threads, both non-blocking:

  • ISO 4217 membership: the contract is now explicitly format-only. Azure rejects a code it does not accept, and the real source is Azure's own properties.currencyCode.
  • "Billing currency vs commitment currency": the code takes Currency as the denomination of HourlyCommitment, sourced from properties.currencyCode (GetRecommendations godoc), and does no billing-account lookup, so its behaviour is right. Only the comment wording "must match the billing account currency" (types.go from feat(common): add SavingsPlanDetails.Currency #345, plus the helper comment) could mislead for MCA accounts. That is a follow-up doc nit.
