after a successful request.

- Around line 1742-1768: Disable peer autolinking on the signed-in builders for
a, b, c, b2, and c2 in the explicit peer-link test by setting peer autolink to

only source of peer dials.
Review comments at
@crates/connetto-peer-android/android/src/main/kotlin/dev/connetto/peer/HotspotPlugin.kt:
- Around line 98-101: Update the `onStarted` callback to close the received
reservation when its request is no longer pending, then return. Bind each
callback to the specific `startHost` request, using a request identifier or
equivalent, and accept the reservation only if that request is still current;
otherwise close it.
- Around line 242-244: In the join request flow, assign `joinCallback` to
`callback` when `cm.requestNetwork` succeeds, before setting `joinState` to
`JOIN_PENDING`, so `unregisterLocked` can release pending requests. Remove the
later assignment from `onAvailable`, and clear `joinCallback` in `onUnavailable`
because the platform has already unregistered the request.
Review comments at @crates/connetto-peer-android/README.md:
- Around line 3-10: Reflow both prose paragraphs in the README into one
continuous line each, preserving their wording and meaning; leave any code or
other formatting unchanged.
- Line 1: Add a badge line directly below the “The peer link's Android
permissions” title covering coverage, licence, rendered API documentation, and
the package registry. Since this crate has publish = false, indicate in the
README that the registry and documentation badges will not resolve yet.
Review comments at @crates/connetto-peer/README.md:
- Around line 3-5: Update the badge section in the README to add badges linking
to the rendered docs.rs documentation and the crates.io package registry for
connetto-peer. Add a brief note that these badges resolve after the first
release, while preserving the existing tests, license, and coverage badges.
Review comments at @crates/connetto-peer/src/discovery.rs:
- Around line 479-495: Update the retry scheduling around arm_retry so each
fingerprint has at most one active timer owned by the runner; retain and reset
its timer or abort its previous task before scheduling a replacement. Ensure
runner shutdown and drop cancel any remaining retry timers.
Review comments at @crates/connetto-peer/src/policy.rs:
- Around line 163-166: Bound each instance’s address tracking in the resolve
path that updates entry.addresses and entry.reported. Add a fixed per-instance
address limit and reject new addresses once entry.addresses reaches it, before
recording them in reported or emitting Action::Found; preserve handling of
existing addresses.
Review comments at @crates/connetto-peer/src/verify.rs:
- Around line 126-135: Update the time-attempt loop in the certificate
verification method to skip attempts that cannot be represented as times since
the Unix epoch instead of panicking. If all attempts are skipped, return a
Refusal; preserve the existing error classification when an attempt produces a
verification error.
Review comments at
@crates/connetto-test-harness/src/bin/connetto-android-proof.rs:
- Around line 127-140: Update the flow around prove and peer_proof so peer_proof
runs only when prove succeeds and a peer_serial is present. Return the original
prove error unchanged when it fails, and preserve the existing result when no
peer is configured.
- Line 424: Update the error messages in the `bail!` calls at both reported
locations to replace the semicolons with commas, preserving the existing message
wording and page details.
- Around line 446-450: Move the `usual_ssid` read in the peer-proof flow until
after `prepare_joiner` reconnects the device, so it is not the first fallible
operation on a wireless joiner. Preserve the returned `stay_on` and
`previous_role` restore state, and handle a `current_ssid` failure without
bypassing the cleanup that uses that state.
- Around line 648-656: Update own_identity to poll page_text until the “peer:
listening on” line contains an identity, rather than waiting for the unrelated “
as ” text once. Preserve the 30-second timeout and return the identity when it
appears; report a useful timeout error if it does not.

🔒 Security & Privacy | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Drop on HotspotOffer does not zero every passphrase copy.
Invariant broken: "zeroed on drop" holds only for the struct field. HostStatus::Started { passphrase } and the FakeBackend/Android standing hold plain String copies. HostStatus is Clone, and host_status() returns a fresh clone on every 250 ms tick. Each of those copies is freed without zeroing. The field documentation at line 57 claims more than the code does. One fix is to hold the passphrase in zeroize::Zeroizing<String> inside HostStatus::Started. The other is to narrow the documentation claim.

This is the fourth slice of R76, and the first time two phones linked to each other with no network between them. An Android device can now start a hotspot from the app with
host_hotspot, which answers the SSID, the passphrase and, while the device holds a valid certificate, its peer port. Another device joins withjoin_hotspot. The user approves the network, only the peer sockets are bound to it so the server connection keeps the phone's usual network, and the joiner dials the host at the gateway. The hotspot follows the app and the client's life rather than the certificate, so a host whose certificate expires in the field keeps its group's network up. The Kotlin these calls need ships in a new crate,connetto-peer-android. Every other system answersUnsupporteduntil its own slice. The plan records the four decisions behind this and full tables for hosting and joining. The Android proof runner gains a two-phone mode, and on emi the Android 15 A35 hosted while the Android 14 A35 joined through the app. The runner tapped the approval dialog, and the two phones linked with both keys chip-proven. The run also found that an A35 refuses to start an access point while its own Wi-Fi sits on eduroam's 5 GHz channel, so the proof turns the host's Wi-Fi off first, as a host in the field has no network. Whether discovery works on a joined network is not measured yet, since the gateway dial links the phones first. The branch sits on #136.
Devices lacked a direct peer link and a way to connect across an Android local hotspot. The change adds certificate-checked peer connections and discovery, with hotspot hosting and joining on Android. The hotspot follows the app and client lifecycle rather than the host certificate, so certificate expiry does not stop the group network.
After the user approves the join request, Android binds peer sockets to the hotspot network. The joiner can dial the host through its gateway. Other platforms report hotspot operations as unsupported. In the reported two-phone proof, the host had to turn off Wi-Fi because it could not start an access point while connected to an active 5 GHz channel.
