fix(core): precise anchors, interrupt-time channels, deadlines in every session (R5 wave 3) - #105
Conversation
…ry session (R5 wave 3) Session clock precision and axes (R5/2: P1, P2, P3, P17, WY11, WY12, F4, plus F5 and F7 found while designing it). - P2: every anchor is read from QueryUnbiasedInterruptTimePrecise (same epoch and sleep bias as QUIT), GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTime projects from it, the plain channels stay on QUIT and fake_wall_at holds them at the anchor until their clock catches up. Measured at x60: 9.87 M distinct values a second and a 6.1 us mean step, where it was 1 221 and 47 ms. - F4: QueryInterruptTime, QueryInterruptTimePrecise and QueryUnbiasedInterruptTimePrecise become duration channels (44 in all). The interrupt-time pair keeps the real sleep bias, read from a consistent QUIT/QIT/QUIT triple. CTL_LAYOUT_VERSION 11. - P3: SetWaitableTimer(Ex), SetThreadpoolTimer(Ex) and NtDelayExecution are installed in every session and convert an absolute deadline on the wall's speed. Relative times scale only under --scale-duration. An absolute NtDelayExecution is converted under --scale-duration too, where it used to pass through. New warning timer.absolute_due_converted when a conversion came before a jump or a speed change. - P1: the core watches the sleep bias and reports the machine's sleep: event host_slept, session_verdict.host_slept_ms and warning time.host_slept. - WY11: call counters stop at 2^20, coverage marks such a count `capped`, and the report, the window and the copied summary say "at least". - WY12: a seqlock write that stays open is waited for once per process, not on every clock call. The bound stays: a shorter one would answer from a half-written anchor after a preemption and step a duration axis back. - P17: fake elapsed time saturates, and the duration axis is reported standing when its banked base reaches the top over several rate changes. - F5: on 32-bit Windows ntdll computes the precise system clocks through the exported RtlQueryPerformanceCounter, where the QPC detour stands under --scale-qpc. The hook's own clock reads now pass the QPC detour untouched and uncounted. Measured: the precise wall clock stayed 200 s ahead after a 3 s session at x60, now 0. - F7: the 1 ms floor no longer lengthens a relative delay shorter than it. The audit table's count column takes the width its numbers need, so a count at the ceiling, and a long one, are no longer cut. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

1725-1757: Interrupt-time detours write output without the trampoline's bias semantics after release. When the process is detached,
released()returnsr.quit_at(clock()). Forh_qitpandh_quitp,clockisreal_quitp.RELEASEDwas built from the plainreal_quitatreleased_at. After release, the line runs at rate 1 fromreal_quitp, while QUIT runs fromreal_quit. The precise reading is ahead of the plain one by up to one timer interrupt, so the two axes stay consistent and do not run back. This is acceptable.Separately, check
own_clockon thereal()path ofh_qit(non-precise).QueryInterruptTimedoes not call QPC, so the guard is harmless there.

SCALE_DURon every call.read_session_clocksruns before everymake_*_hookscall and beforeenable_all_hooks. Because of that, no detour can read a stalefalse. The order is correct.

…und on #105 The import register granted api-ms-win-core-realtime-l1-1-1.dll to the core and to the hook by module name alone, so a direct import of one of the two precise interrupt clocks would have passed under the same entry. In the hook that import would call back into its own detour once it stands, which is why the hook reads them through the trampoline or the export resolved with GetProcAddress. The new test pins the function lists on both bitnesses, as the iphlpapi and advapi32 entries already are: the core imports exactly QueryInterruptTime and QueryUnbiasedInterruptTimePrecise, the hook exactly QueryInterruptTime. Reversal probe: the fallback in real_quitp rewritten as a direct call of QueryUnbiasedInterruptTimePrecise and the x64 release hook rebuilt - only this test reddened, on the hook's list. R5 wave 3: session clock precision and axes (R5/2)
One commit,
6f869a7. Covers P1, P2, P3, P17, WY11, WY12 and F4 from the R5 report, plus two findings made while designing it (F5, F7).What changes
QueryUnbiasedInterruptTimePrecise, which has the same epoch and the same sleep bias asQueryUnbiasedInterruptTime(disassembled on both bitnesses), so the sleep semantics of ADR-5 hold.GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTimeprojects from the precise clock. The other wall channels stay on the plain one, andfake_wall_atgains the floor the duration axes already had, so a plain reading right after a precise anchor holds at the anchor. Precise is never behind plain at the same moment, as in Windows.QueryInterruptTime,QueryInterruptTimePreciseandQueryUnbiasedInterruptTimePrecise(exported by kernelbase only) become duration channels, scaled under--scale-duration. The interrupt-time pair adds the real sleep bias, read as a QUIT, QIT, QUIT triple whose two QUIT readings agree, and kept non-decreasing. 44 channels.CTL_LAYOUT_VERSION10 to 11 (callswidens,Cov.absolute_duesappended).NtDelayExecutionstand in every session and convert an absolute deadline on the wall's speed. Relative times and periods scale only under--scale-duration. An absoluteNtDelayExecutionunder--scale-durationused to reach the kernel unconverted. Without--scale-durationthe five channels are expected but not listed as substituted, and a failed one is reported uncovered. New warningtimer.absolute_due_converted, raised only when a conversion came before a jump or a speed change.host_slept {slept_ms, total_slept_ms},session_verdict.host_slept_ms, warningtime.host_slept, and the report states the length of the sleep.coveragemarks such a count withcapped(absent when false), and the report, the window's audit table and the copied summary say "at least".seq), so later readers do not wait the bound again. No hot-path change.RtlGetSystemTimePreciseandRtlGetInterruptTimePrecisecall the exportedRtlQueryPerformanceCounter, where the QPC detour stands under--scale-qpc. The hook's own reads of those clocks raise a thread flag, and the QPC detour passes them untouched and uncounted. Under--scale-qpcwithout--scale-duration, the two precise interrupt clocks are hooked so that they are answered real.NtDelayExecution(-1)became 1 ms at every speed and was reported as held at the floor).Measured (Windows 11 26200, both bitnesses)
--scale-qpc), zero steps back on every clock, precise never below plain. Revert probe (no floor infake_wall_at):GetSystemTimeAsFileTimestepped back 1 058 times, up to 2.14 s.--scale-duration. Relative ones take 1 000 ms in a default session and about 17.5 ms under--scale-duration. Revert probe: without the always-installed group, the absoluteNtDelayExecutionof the default session never returned.--scale-durationx60: rate 60 on all four,QueryInterruptTimeminusQueryUnbiasedInterruptTimeequal to the real sleep bias without the tool. Revert probes: without the QIT detour its rate is 1, which gives a bias of -163 s. Without the bias it is 0.--scale-qpc: the precise wall clock after the session was 200 331.8 ms ahead before the change and is 0.0 ms now. During the session the precise interrupt clocks were 199 s off and are 0.9 ms off now. x64 was not affected. Revert probe: back to 198 502 ms.Not covered here
hook_integrity.rsandsession_end.rsdo not exercise the three new detours yet.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
