Quest: quest/m1/quic/fork/README.md, finished and deleted here.

The epic's remaining work after the switch (#5664) was freezing moq-dev/noq and auditing its carried changes.

Newly unblocked (their only blocker was the fork): peer limits, reliable reset, scheduler, send errors, shard, and several m2/m3 QUIC quests. Most already have draft PRs.

Public API: none. Wire: none.

moq-dev/noq is frozen in moq-dev/noq#41, and every carried change in its
CHANGELOG-MOQ.md is ported or recorded as not applicable in #5664. Delete
the epic and drop its Required entries, rewording the prose that waited
on the switch.

Outcome: the epic is complete. moq-dev/noq#41 freezes the fork (sync job deleted, README marked frozen, repository not archived), and the CHANGELOG-MOQ audit against #5664 found no gap. Open: merging moq-dev/noq#41, and the later decision to archive moq-dev/noq once no released MoQ crate depends on moq-noq (release still pins 1.3.5).

Walkthrough

This PR updates quest documentation across Milestones 1, 2, and 3. The plans describe QUIC work as landing in moq-quic and remove hard-fork quest prerequisites from related QUIC, performance, and cut-through quests. The moq-quic plan also updates the stated status of moq-dev/noq.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 312e3

The quest documents can misdirect benchmark work and imply a removed prerequisite, but these are bounded planning issues with no production behavior change. Align those references before relying on the plans; overall merge risk is low.

Remove the stale fork prerequisite.

The copy-removal quest is now planned for moq-quic, without a hard-fork prerequisite.

Codex and CodeRabbit flagged quests that still pointed at the deleted
moq-uring quic/noq driver, the moq-noq-proto pin, or the fork as a

562b0c6 addresses the reviews of 312e3e5:

  • Codex: uring-quiescence.md, uring-copies.md, uring-drop-close.md, and datagram-priority.md point at rs/moq-uring/src/quic/driver; quic-ecn-measure.md and quic-ecn.md baseline on moq-quic's ported classic ECN response.
  • CodeRabbit outside-diff (quest/m2/perf/README.md:81): the Remove moq-uring copies entry now ends "with before/after measurements on moq-quic" instead of "after the fork".
  • Also swept: scheduler.md and reliable-reset.md target moq-quic instead of noq-proto, peer-limits.md drops "after the fork switch", and the uring "unmeasured on noq" notes say moq-quic. Remaining "the fork" mentions in QUIC quests are covered by the epic's "read that as moq-quic" note; moq-noq 1.3.5 in m0 is correct for release.

Drop the blanket "read the fork as moq-quic" note and fix each quest
inline: actionable plans target moq-quic, dated history stays labeled,
and iroh's upstream noq is left alone. The web-transport-moq release
wait is moot now that the close fix is in-tree, so it is deleted.

75f85a0 removes the blanket "read the fork as moq-quic" note from quest/m1/quic/README.md and fixes each quest inline. The sweep searched quest/ for "noq", "the fork", "fork lands", "after the fork", "moq-noq", "hard fork", "switch", and "lands in" (UniFFI, C++, and unrelated "switch" senses excluded).

Actionable, retargeted to moq-quic in-tree

  • quest/README.md, m1/README.md, m1/time/README.md: "the QUIC library switch" is now the in-tree QUIC stack; the clock-prerequisite note is gone.
  • m1/quic/README.md, m3/README.md: L4S entry says an ECT(1) option in moq-quic.
  • m1/close-tail-drain.md: poll_accept ordering is moq-tokio's quic::driver (verified: it drains accepted streams before the error); the other adapter is quic::web.
  • m1/rs-request-credit.md: quic::web can ask moq-quic for credit directly; only qmux and iroh lack a web-transport-trait query.
  • m1/quic/receive-credit.md, m2/quic-bbr-loss-parity.md: no longer wait on the fork switch.
  • m1/time/relay-seam.md: abstracts over moq-tokio's server types as feat(quic)!: run moq-tokio and moq-uring on moq-quic #5664 left them, instead of waiting for the switch.
  • m1/quic/scheduler.md, m2/quic-deadline.md, m2/quic-egress-profile.md, m2/quic-probe.md, m3/quic-careful-resume.md, m2/README.md (qmux): "in the fork" is now moq-quic.
  • m2/quic-io-boundary.md: the gating profile is a moq-quic one.
  • m2/one-port/README.md: moq-quic greases the QUIC bit by default (grease_quic_bit: true); quic::driver takes the virtual socket through new_with_abstract_socket.
  • m2/wire-stats/presence.md: moq-quic supplies udp_tx/udp_rx.
  • m2/noq-socket-close.md: quinn's async layer is imported as quic::driver.
  • m2/perf/uring-copies.md: drops "paths above are pre-fork names", since the paths are now current.
  • m3/cut-through/loss-delay.md: drops "once moq-quic lands".
  • m2/quic-bbr-natural-drain.md: the baseline is moq-quic's BBR3, which carries the released fork's corrections.
  • m1/test-flakes-2/interop-close-release.md is deleted. It waited for a published web-transport-moq carrying fix(web-transport-moq): acknowledge close capsules before teardown noq#40 so main could drop its 2.0.4 pin, but feat(quic)!: run moq-tokio and moq-uring on moq-quic #5664 removed that dependency and copied the fix into quic::web (its regressions are in rs/moq-tokio/src/quic/web/session.rs). interop-close-code.md and the test-flakes-2 epic no longer require it, and the adoption quest now validates main and keeps its release backport recommendation.

Historical, labeled

  • m2/quic-bbr-natural-drain.md: the noq idle-restart and Google-differences notes are attributed to the 2026-09-21 audit, with a note to recheck each against moq-quic's BBR3 (ported from noq in feat(moq-quic): port BBR3 and the controller callbacks as the default controller #4921).
  • Already dated and left as is: m1/quic/send-errors.md ("Decided 2026-09-30: ... after the switch"), m2/quic-qmux.md ("the fork plan the same day"), m2/perf/uring-copies.md ("2026-09-30 fork planning"), m1/quic/README.md (moq-noq 1.3.1 BBR fixes), m2/quic-ecn-measure.md (moq-noq 1.3.1 as a defective baseline), m1/quic/datagram-priority.md (compares quinn-derived stacks).

Left alone

quest check passes (436 documents).

Main moved and the queue dropped this on a conflict in quest/m1/test-flakes-2/README.md. 71af19e merges origin/main: main deleted the TS resume late-frames quest (#5710), and this branch keeps its removal of the close-release wait, so only the Interop close code entry remains. quest check passes, CI is green, and Codex reviewed 71af19e with no findings. Requeued.
