Plans the follow-ups picked in the 2026-10-31 /quest-complete requeue session interview. Quest-only, no code changes.

Summary

New quests:

  • [S] quest/m1/catalog-jitter-floor.md: Rendition::set floors unsupplied jitter and delay at the catalog's published values, as Rendition::estimate does. Added to ## Required of quest/m1/hls-conformance.md, since it blocks moq-dev/moq#7387.
  • [S] quest/m1/fmp4-refusal-framing.md: a box the fMP4 importer refuses at its header no longer drops the rest of its call's input (continue past it or make refusals terminal, chosen during implementation), and the ~25% interleaved-import slowdown from moq-dev/moq#7232 gets re-measured. Planned as fmp4-open-commit.md; fix(mux)!: stream fMP4 media payloads and bound held metadata #7232 has since streamed samples through Producer::open/commit, so that bullet is done and the quest was renamed to what remains.
  • [XS] quest/m1/mkv-leaf-limits.md: per-element size limits for CodecID, DocType, and CodecPrivate.

Both importer quests are linked directly from m1's ## Required, since main removed their parent security-audit epic (see Iteration 4).

  • [M] quest/m2/dash-reconfigure.md: DASH keeps the old instance's segments across a same-codec reconfigure, using either multiple Periods or a per-segment init (chosen during implementation).
  • [S] quest/m2/relay-undialable-peers.md: moq-tokio exposes the schemes it can dial, and the relay refuses an undialable cluster peer at startup.
  • [XS] quest/m2/auth-drop-iroh.md: drop Transport::Iroh and the JS "iroh" value in the next breaking moq-auth release.
  • [S] quest/m2/c-origin-relay.md: the C API can put an origin in relay mode (eager discovery).
  • [S] quest/m0/ci/dispatch-selection-gaps.md: dispatcher tool-list changes run sh/dispatch-query.test.py in CI, and the jq noise in sh/rs/uring.test.py goes away.
  • [S] quest/m0/test-flakes-2/kotlin-js-flakes.md: root-cause the Kotlin unroutable flow-cancel flake and the JS IETF blind-handle late-publisher flake.
  • [XS] quest/m2/net-test-subscriber.md: plain cargo test -p moq-net --lib passes.
  • [XS] quest/m2/format-gate-followups.md: one Ruff pin, and Swift formatting on aarch64-linux once nixpkgs builds swiftc there.

Edits:

  • quest/m2/media-fuzz.md: measure parse amplification of a 32 MiB moov/moof (about 2.5x).
  • quest/m1/announce-takeover.md: a separate "Once identity replaces ANNOUNCE_TAKEOVER" section, so it merges cleanly with moq-dev/moq#7420's rewrite. It covers rewording "takeover" in bench-epoch-pin, hls-follow-once, and cluster-routing/routes.md, rewriting EPOCH in terms of IDENTITY in the cluster and epoch drafts, and the solicit=false regression test from moq-dev/moq#7239.
  • quest/m2/net-wrap/e2ee.md: MAX_DATAGRAM_HEADER also counts the ietf extension's relayed fields and moq-net's lite Inflated Size header field, which a compressed physical track carries (from moq-dev/moq#7435). The wrapper's own inflated size sits inside the authenticated payload, so it counts against the plaintext budget instead.
  • quest/m2/lint-examples.md: PR CI also builds the C++, Go, and Python interop clients.
  • quest/m2/audit-lints.md: replace the set_var/remove_var text check with a disallowed-methods entry in the root clippy.toml, which arrives with moq-dev/moq#7329.
  • quest/m1/hls-conformance.md: lists the jitter-floor quest as the test's third blocker.
  • quest/m2/import-metadata-policy.md: its Related entry links /quest/m1/mkv-leaf-limits.md instead of this PR.

Deletion:

  • quest/m2/noq-congestion.md, removed with quest rm. With iroh dropped in moq-dev/moq#7345, nothing in moq runs noq, so upstreaming moq-congestion into noq has no consumer here. Its mention in quest/m1/api-audit/congestion-names.md went away when moq-dev/moq#7258 finished and deleted that quest.

Decisions

Interview with the maintainer, 2026-10-31:

  • Media: ✅ fMP4 open/commit + framing, ✅ MKV leaf limits, ✅ DASH across reconfigure, ✅ fMP4 parse amplification
  • Net/API: ✅ identity rewording + test, ✅ relay undialable peers (+ auth iroh drop), ✅ e2ee header fields, ✅ C origin relay mode
  • CI/tests: ✅ build all interop clients, ✅ selection gaps, ✅ two flakes, ✅ moq-net test subscriber
  • Small/tools: ✅ set_var via clippy.toml, ✅ format-gate leftovers; not picked: compile-time + fetch notes, quest-repo tooling
  • Jitter floor: ✅ plan [S] in m1; not picked: fix it in fix(hls): keep a reconfigured rendition's segments in its playlist #7436, drop it
  • Milestones: ✅ accept the proposed table
  • noq-congestion: ✅ delete; not picked: keep it without the iroh bullet, move it to m3
  • Goal: ✅ a quest-only plan PR

Choices made while writing:

  • fmp4-refusal-framing and mkv-leaf-limits mention fix(mux)!: stream fMP4 media payloads and bound held metadata #7232 and fix(mux)!: stream MKV blocks and discard ignored elements in one pass #7234 in their Plan instead of linking the fmp4-stream-mdat and mkv-stream-blocks quests under Required. Both PRs have since landed and deleted those quests.
  • dash-reconfigure requires quest/m1/hls-reinit-same-codec.md. fix(hls): keep a reconfigured rendition's segments in its playlist #7436 re-scopes that quest and keeps it open, and DASH builds on its predecessor window.
  • dispatch-selection-gaps links moq-dev/moq#7440 under Related instead of check-selection.md, which isn't on main yet. That quest makes jq selection errors fatal, which would turn the uring fixture's jq noise into a failure. It does not cover the tool-list gap. The noise comes from the fixture lacking workspace_root/targets, which sh/rs/select.sh reads.
  • catalog-jitter-floor notes that published_text_jitter_never_decreases's None case flips to succeed under the floor.
  • audit-lints notes the reason rs/justfile gives for using a text check: clock-lint test allowances also silence disallowed_methods. The clippy entry needs to survive that.

Not planned (already covered)

Iteration (2026-11-01)

The land queue ejected this PR twice. The first time, a base merge had nested the announce-takeover subsection under ## Required (already fixed in de0f07c). The second time, quest check against the new base failed with quest/m2/net-test-subscriber.md:31: link does not resolve: /quest/m1/clock-test-process.md, because moq-dev/moq#7243 finished and deleted that quest. The branch then conflicted with main.

Iteration 2 (2026-11-01)

CodeRabbit's two threads on fb7bd248cb, both answered and resolved in f5eccf5e05:

  • Fixed (fmp4-refusal-framing): the Goal contradicted the terminal-refusal option. The refusal behavior is still chosen during implementation, as the maintainer decided. The Goal now states what each option guarantees: read past the refused box and keep framing, or fail terminally so no input is silently dropped. Thread.
  • Fixed in part (e2ee): CodeRabbit asked to keep Inflated Size out of MAX_DATAGRAM_HEADER. The Inflated Size in that bullet is moq-net's lite header field (rs/moq-net/src/lite/datagram.rs:4). It sits outside the AEAD and stays in the allowance. The bullet now separates it from the wrapper's authenticated inflated size, which counts against the plaintext budget. It also says the header field disappears once the wrapper creates the physical track uncompressed. Thread.

Iteration 3 (2026-11-01)

The land queue ejected this PR with merge_conflict after main moved again.

  • Merged origin/main at d8288e6934 (merge commit 7c6eda5d85):
    • quest/m1/api-audit/congestion-names.md: moq-dev/moq#7258 finished and deleted it; the deletion stands, and this PR's edit to it is dropped.
    • quest/m1/security-audit/README.md: moq-dev/moq#7216 and moq-dev/moq#7217 finished js-input and ci-pins, removed the epic's ## Required, and sized it [M]. The epic keeps this PR's two new children, so Required lists only fmp4-refusal-framing and mkv-leaf-limits, and the title drops the size again (an epic with children carries none).
  • Re-checked the added quests against the merged main. moq-dev/moq#7246 landed without a relay-mode origin (moq_origin_create still makes a local one), so c-origin-relay stands. catalog-jitter-floor's tracks.rs references (:655, :711, :725-726, :1078) still hold. kotlin-js-flakes now points at SmokeTest.kt:579, which moved after moq-dev/moq#6946.
  • CodeRabbit's three threads on 9370014e2f, all fixed, answered, and resolved in df6c9f29ae:
    • fmp4-refusal-framing Goal: states the framing guarantee directly (later calls stay framed whatever chunk boundaries the caller picks). Thread.
    • fmp4-refusal-framing Plan: rewrote the ungrammatical refusal-choice sentence. Thread.
    • e2ee: the forwarded ietf properties block is variable, up to MAX_OBJECT_EXTENSIONS (64 KiB), so no fixed MAX_DATAGRAM_HEADER covers it, and the lite publisher drops a body over 1200 bytes. The quest now leaves the choice to implementation, between capping forwarded properties on a protected datagram and documenting that relay properties fall outside the allowance, and adds a vector with non-empty relay properties. Thread.
  • pullfrog (optional) failed on 9370014e2f because Pullfrog's billing service was down ("this run didn't start"). There was nothing to fix in the PR.

Choice made while writing: the e2ee relay-properties bound is an implementation choice in the quest, like the fMP4 refusal behavior, not a new maintainer decision.

Iteration 4 (2026-11-02)

Main moved again and the PR conflicted.

  • Merged origin/main at fd0b0cb9e4 (merge commit 6db7ce21b0). One conflict: moq-dev/moq#7611 found the m1 security-audit epic complete and deleted quest/m1/security-audit/README.md, while this PR had changed it to list its two new children. chore(quest): complete the recorded pre-cut security audit #7611 records that this PR should keep both quests and link them directly from m1 instead of bringing back the completed audit. Resolution:
    • fmp4-refusal-framing.md and mkv-leaf-limits.md move to quest/m1/. A directory without a README is not an epic. Their Related links to each other follow the move.
    • quest/m1/README.md lists both under ## Required, at the rank where the epic stood (after vendor-sync).
    • quest/m2/import-metadata-policy.md linked this PR and its old path. It now links /quest/m1/mkv-leaf-limits.md.
  • mkv-leaf-limits still holds after moq-dev/moq#7608 changed mkv/import.rs: DocType, CodecID, and CodecPrivate are still Action::Read.
  • CodeRabbit's review on df6c9f29ae (2026-11-02T04:55Z) is only an acknowledgement on the already-resolved framing thread, with no new finding. The Pullfrog and OpenAI reviews on df6c9f29ae also found no new issues.

Checks

  • quest check --base origin/main --branch quest-plan/2026-10-31-complete-followups: 622 documents ok (head 6db7ce21b0)
  • quest gate just check origin/main: passed (markdown, gh, quest, shell, large files, TOML, Nix, justfile)
  • 6db7ce21b0 merges cleanly with origin/main at da5c2afade

Review

Codex (gpt-6.1-sol, medium effort) via quest review --base origin/main, round 1 of a new session on head 6db7ce21b0becfb0767e630c647c3f74f9cfce8a (base da5c2afade): no findings. The new head includes a conflict resolution, so it needed a fresh review.

Earlier rounds: Codex (gpt-6.1-sol, medium) reviewed df6c9f29ae with no findings. The local review was skipped on f5eccf5e05 and fb7bd248cb under the quest-only simple-review rule (moq-dev/quest#364). Before that, Codex (gpt-6.1-sol, medium) reviewed ba3f8fb and 909cae83a5 with no findings. The OpenAI online review's [P2] on audit-lints was fixed in 909cae83a5.

Reviewed commit: ba3f8fb.

[P2] Require actual suppression narrowing before removing the environment-write gate (quest/m2/audit-lints.md:85-87). A specific reason does not restrict which clippy::disallowed_methods diagnostics an expectation suppresses. For example, rs/moq-mux/src/lib.rs:2-5 already has a crate-wide test expectation with the specific reason “tests read the host clock directly”. Following the reason-only alternative and removing the grep gate would allow a future std::env::set_var/remove_var in that test build to escape enforcement. Remove that alternative: require narrowing the actual attribute scope to clock operations, or retain an independent environment-write check until equivalent enforcement is demonstrated.

Overall direction: these bounded, separately implementable follow-up quests are reasonable; reusing the existing streaming API and predecessor window avoids parallel mechanisms. The lint migration needs the correction above. This is the first published review; no prior findings to reconcile.

Verification: static review of the quest changes and relevant source context, with an independent check of the lint finding. No tests, benchmarks, quest check, or Markdown checks were run by this review.

Quest-only planning PR (no code changes) recording the follow-ups picked in the 2026-10-31 /quest-complete requeue session.

  • 11 new quests, each linked from its milestone README: m0/ci/dispatch-selection-gaps.md, m0/test-flakes-2/kotlin-js-flakes.md, m1/catalog-jitter-floor.md, m1/security-audit/fmp4-open-commit.md, m1/security-audit/mkv-leaf-limits.md, m2/dash-reconfigure.md, m2/relay-undialable-peers.md, m2/auth-drop-iroh.md, m2/c-origin-relay.md, m2/net-test-subscriber.md, m2/format-gate-followups.md.
  • Existing quests edited: m2/media-fuzz.md (parse amplification), m1/announce-takeover.md (new identity-rewrite section), m2/net-wrap/e2ee.md (datagram header fields), m2/lint-examples.md (interop-client builds), m2/audit-lints.md (set_var via clippy.toml), m1/hls-conformance.md (third blocker), m1/api-audit/congestion-names.md (stale noq bullet rewritten).
  • Deletion: quest/m2/noq-congestion.md removed and unlinked from the m2 README.

Verification

Every README link target resolves, all 11 new files exist, no noq-congestion reference remains anywhere, and sh/markdown.sh check passes. I spot-checked the concrete code references in the new quests against the tree and they all match (tracks.rs:655/711/761, origin.rs with_link/Link/relays/moq_origin_create, client.rs:447 connect_inner, cluster.rs Config::connect, setup.rs:311 + test_tracing.rs:39, SmokeTest.kt:462, integration.test.ts:1933/1998, request.rs Transport::Iroh, contract.ts iroh, mpd.rs:240/293, pyproject.toml:61, rs/justfile:50), and confirmed commit 6633d2f2e2 added zizmor to sh/dispatch.sh's gh tool list as the quest states. Claims tied to queued PRs cannot be validated from this branch, but they are forward-looking plan text rather than behavior in this diff.

…heck

A specific expectation reason does not narrow what it silences, so the
clippy entry only replaces the text check once crate-wide test
expectations move onto the items that read the clock.

Fixed the [P2] audit-lints finding in 909cae8: the "keep each reason specific" alternative is gone. The quest now says a reason does not narrow what an expectation silences, requires moving crate- and module-wide test expectations (such as rs/moq-mux/src/lib.rs's cfg_attr(test, expect(...))) onto the items that read the clock, and keeps the text check until none remain.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: 909cae8, compared with ba3f8fb (unchanged base).

The prior P2 is fixed in the plan: quest/m2/audit-lints.md:85-89 removes the reason-only alternative, requires narrowing the broad clock expectations, and retains the text gate until that prerequisite is met. No new actionable bugs found in this update.

Direction: this is the appropriate minimal correction; no additional mechanism is needed in this planning PR. Verification was static review of the sole changed file and its surrounding plan, not execution of the future lint migration. No tests or checks were run.

Reviewed changes

The only change since the prior pullfrog review (ba3f8fb) is a plan-text correction to quest/m2/audit-lints.md.

  • Narrowed the set_var/remove_var plan: the reason-only alternative was dropped. The plan now requires moving crate- and module-wide test clock expectations (naming rs/moq-mux/src/lib.rs's cfg_attr(test, expect(...))) onto the items that read the clock, and keeping the git grep text check until none remain.

I verified the added claims against the tree: rs/moq-mux/src/lib.rs:2-5 carries the crate-wide cfg_attr(test, expect(clippy::disallowed_methods, reason = "tests read the host clock directly")), and rs/justfile:48-50's lint recipe documents exactly why the check is text today. The correction reads accurately and removes the unsound alternative.

Walkthrough

The pull request updates quest plans and backlog lists across testing, CI, media, and API and transport topics. The added documents describe proposed investigations, behavior changes, and tests; they do not implement those changes. The m2 backlog also removes the noq congestion-adoption entry and expands the interop-client CI description.

Enumerate the complete supported CodecPrivate set.

The quest names only avcC, hvcC, Opus, and Vorbis. The importer also handles FLAC, AAC, AV1C, and WebVTT configurations. A_VORBIS is currently unsupported, so do not include Vorbis as a supported configuration. Update the plan to enumerate supported codecs and fixtures before selecting limits.

Do not use reason as a lint-scope filter.

#[expect(clippy::disallowed_methods, reason = "...")] suppresses matching diagnostics within its attribute scope. The reason value only documents the expectation. The plan should require narrower attribute scopes or separate clock and environment-write checks.

Heads-up for quest/m1/security-audit/fmp4-open-commit.md: moq-dev/moq#7234 landed first, so moq-dev/moq#7232 now streams the fMP4 importer's unwrapped samples through Producer::open/commit and no longer adds start_sample/finish_sample (merge commit 5dbdb5a, queued for quest land). Once #7232 merges, the quest's open/commit bullet is done; the refused box and benchmark bullets remain, so the quest should be rewritten to those two (and its title and Goal trimmed) rather than deleted.

Reviewed changes

Since the prior pullfrog review (909cae83a), the branch merged main and applied a small doc correction:

  • Merged base main into the branch, advancing the merge base from 6a260cd to 08e71cd (commit 5cefe06a39).
  • Restored the identity planning subsection under ## Plan in quest/m1/announce-takeover.md. ### Once identity replaces ANNOUNCE_TAKEOVER now sits inside the Plan section rather than nested beneath ## Required, with the Public API:/Wire: annotation and ## Required following it.
  • Repointed a dead quest link in quest/m0/ci/dispatch-selection-gaps.md: the workspace-test-env quest was removed with the base merge, so its Related entry now links PR #7432 instead of the deleted file.

Verification

workspace-test-env.md is absent from the tree, so the link fix is justified; every /quest/*.md link in the 24 changed files still resolves after the base advance; sh/markdown.sh check passes. quest check could not be run (no quest binary in this environment). No open pullfrog threads remained to retire, and the earlier OpenAI P2 on audit-lints.md was already resolved.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: f5eccf5, against the last published review at fb7bd24 (unchanged base).

No new actionable bugs found. The two planning fixes address the independent refusal-contract finding and inflated-size accounting concern: terminal failure is now an explicit alternative to preserving framing, and transport-header overhead is distinguished from the wrapper's authenticated plaintext size. The latter correctly becomes unnecessary for compression once the physical track is uncompressed; seal/open compatibility remains required.

Direction: these focused clarifications avoid conflicting implementation requirements without adding mechanisms. Verification was static inspection of both changed plans and the current Rust datagram encoding and E2EE track paths. No tests or benchmarks were run; planned implementations remain unverified.

Reviewed changes

Re-reviewed the delta since the prior pullfrog review (fb7bd248c..f5eccf5e0), which settles the two CodeRabbit threads on the prior head. Quest-only, no code.

  • fmp4-refusal-framing.md Goal now matches the Plan. The Goal states both options the Plan leaves open: read the rest of the decode call's input past the refused box and keep framing, or make the refusal terminal so no later call silently drops input. The prior Goal implied only the first, which CodeRabbit correctly read as contradicting the Plan's terminal-refusal alternative.
  • net-wrap/e2ee.md separates two distinct inflated sizes. It now names moq-net's lite Inflated Size header field (rs/moq-net/src/lite/datagram.rs:29,74-76) as the one a compressed physical track carries outside the AEAD and therefore counts under MAX_DATAGRAM_HEADER, distinguishing it from the wrapper's authenticated inflated size, which sits in the plaintext budget. It also notes the header field vanishes once the wrapper creates the physical track uncompressed. The concern CodeRabbit raised (double-counting) is answered: these are two different fields in two different budgets.

I verified the load-bearing claims against the tree: Datagram::inflated is a plaintext varint in the datagram body, MAX_DATAGRAM_HEADER = 28 in both rs/moq-e2ee/src/limits.rs:50 and js/e2ee/src/limits.ts:59, and seal/open share MAX_DATAGRAM_PAYLOAD (rs/moq-e2ee/src/track.rs:136,389), so the split/version-selected-limit requirement reads accurately.

No open pullfrog threads remained to retire; the earlier OpenAI P2 on audit-lints.md and the CodeRabbit threads on the prior head were already addressed.

Resolves the quest conflicts: congestion-names finished in #7258 and stays
deleted; the security-audit epic keeps this PR's two new children and drops
its size again, since js-input and ci-pins finished in #7216 and #7217.

- e2ee: the ietf properties block is variable (up to 64 KiB), so no fixed
allowance covers it; choose between a forwarding cap or documenting the
drop, and add a vector with non-empty relay properties.
- fmp4-refusal-framing: state the framing guarantee directly and fix the
  refusal-choice sentence.
- kotlin-js-flakes: SmokeTest.kt moved to :579 after #6946.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: df6c9f2, compared with the last published review at f5eccf5, accounting for merged base changes.

No new actionable bugs found. The E2EE plan now addresses the independent variable-size relay-properties finding: it makes the cap-versus-documented-drop decision explicit and requires non-empty-property coverage. This clarifies the future contract; it does not implement a delivery guarantee. Previously reviewed refusal/framing and seal/open compatibility corrections remain intact.

Direction: keeping that choice in the implementation quest is proportionate; documenting transport drops avoids adding machinery solely for rare relay metadata. Verification: static inspection of the changed plans and current datagram encoder, property bounds, and publisher size enforcement. No tests or benchmarks were run, and future implementation behavior remains unverified.

Reviewed changes

Re-reviewed the delta since the prior pullfrog review (f5eccf5e0..df6c9f29ae), which merges origin/main and settles the three CodeRabbit threads on 9370014e2f. Quest-only, no code.

  • Clarified the fMP4 refusal-framing contract. fmp4-refusal-framing.md's Goal now states the framing guarantee directly (later calls stay correctly framed whatever chunk boundaries the caller picks), dropping the undefined box-aligned-caller comparison, and the Plan asks for the option that keeps the importer's state simpler while meeting HLS ingest's needs. Goal and Plan agree on both open options.
  • Bounded the e2ee relayed properties. net-wrap/e2ee.md now names the forwarded ietf properties block as the variable piece no fixed MAX_DATAGRAM_HEADER covers, leaves the cap-versus-document choice to implementation, and adds a vector with non-empty relay properties.
  • Absorbed the base merge. security-audit/README.md now lists only this PR's two children under ## Required (main had removed js-input/ci-pins) and drops the epic's [M] marker.

I verified the new e2ee references against the tree: encode_datagram writes the properties block via w.bytes(encode_properties(..)) (rs/moq-net/src/lite/ietf.rs:372-401), bounded by MAX_OBJECT_EXTENSIONS = 64 KiB (rs/moq-net/src/ietf/group.rs:18,24-35), and the lite publisher drops a body past min(max_datagram_size, Datagram::MAX_SIZE = 1200) (rs/moq-net/src/lite/publisher.rs:3895-3898). All 11 new quests remain indexed from their milestone/epic READMEs, and no noq-congestion / fmp4-open-commit / clock-test-process reference remains. Prior pullfrog reviews had no inline threads to retire.

Reviewed changes

Re-reviewed the delta since the prior pullfrog review (df6c9f29ae..6db7ce21b), a merge of origin/main that resolves the conflict with #7611's deletion of the m1 security-audit epic. Quest-only, no code.

  • Moved the two importer quests to m1. fmp4-refusal-framing.md and mkv-leaf-limits.md now live under quest/m1/ instead of the deleted quest/m1/security-audit/, with their mutual Related links repointed.
  • Listed both under m1's ## Required after vendor-sync, once each, matching the rank the epic held.
  • Repointed import-metadata-policy.md's Related link to /quest/m1/mkv-leaf-limits.md instead of the PR and old path.
  • Absorbed main's unrelated changes: relay-stack-all-features removed from m0/test-flakes-2/README.md, and ietf-join-after-finish renamed to ietf-js-joining-fetch in m2/README.md.

I verified the net diff against main (23 files, +500/-35) and the tree: quest/m1/security-audit/ is gone, both quests are indexed once from quest/m1/README.md, and no dangling m1/security-audit, noq-congestion, fmp4-open-commit, relay-stack-all-features, or ietf-join-after-finish reference remains (the only m1/security-audit hit is a historical commit-SHA link in m0/security-audit/README.md). sh/markdown.sh check passes. No open pullfrog threads remained to retire; the CodeRabbit framing thread is resolved.
