Distribution

Anna Bernasconi edited this page Dec 28, 2020 · 2 revisions

This screen provides a bar plot informing on the distribution of variants (along the horizontal axis that represent the position on the nucleotide or amino acid chain) within the observed population. The specific structure of the virus sequence is shown with a colored image at the bottom of the bar plot.

After selecting the options at her choice on the left panel, the “Plot” button must be clicked to render the plot. The user may use a slider component to zoom in a coordinate range of preference, possibly corresponding to a specific gene (colored with a unique color).

Two working modes are available:

  • Nucleotides variants: in this case the full sequence of the virus is available for plotting the distribution
  • Amino acids mutations: in this case the user should select a specific protein within which the variants are shown

By hovering on the plot, the user may visualize the specific position represented by each bar and the precise composition its corresponding count. See for example in the figure below where in position 14,408 there are 1,203 sequences presenting a C to T mutation while only one sequence has the C to A mutation.

Besides representing a default graph (bars are in black), the user may highlight:

  • a specific sequence
  • specific variants (also from KB)

In this case the highlighted bars are in red while other ones are in grey. See in the following figure where red bars represent all the C to T mutations.

Here we show the 'Distribution' screen of VirusLab, a visual representation of the variants’ distribution in the uploaded sequences
