feat(net)!: separate JS publication control from broadcast filling - #6795
A fill-only Broadcast.Producer, including prepared.broadcast, exposes announcement calls it cannot safely perform.
Approach
Return Origin.Publication from createBroadcast and Prepared.publish. It owns announce, unannounce, and route, and exposes its readonly fill broadcast. Preserve admission and lifetime behavior, remove the withholding hook, and migrate package, demo, benchmark, test, and documentation consumers. The explicit wire-compat client supports released and current return shapes.
Impact
Breaking JS API: retain the returned publication for announcement control; use publication.broadcast for tracks and close it to end the broadcast. Broadcast.Producer loses announcement methods and route.
No wire change.
Alternatives
Keeping methods that throw would preserve the capability mismatch. Extra public compatibility methods were dropped.
Validation
Full just ci passed against current origin/main after a conflict-free merge, including generated WASM bindings (291 seconds).
The previously blocked shared test/tsconfig.json typecheck now passes with the generated declarations.
Final quest-only cleanup passed quest check --base origin/main and an incremental CI gate.
Stale publication tests cover a still-held fill handle and replacement under a new epoch.
Follow-ups
None. The completed quest and its links are removed.
No actionable bugs found. Separating publication control from broadcast filling is a clear capability improvement over announcement methods that throw. The small wrapper preserves route normalization, prepared-answer admission, close-driven retraction, and stale-publication identity checks without introducing another lifetime mechanism. The caller migrations and released/current compatibility handling are consistent with the breaking API.
Verification: static inspection of the implementation, relevant lifecycle tests, API declarations, and migrated consumers. I did not run tests or independently verify the reported CI results.

Walkthrough
The change adds an Origin.Publication handle that separates route announcement control from the broadcast producer used to create and fill tracks. Origin creation and prepared publishing now return this handle, and announcement methods are removed from Broadcast.Producer. Tests, examples, benchmarks, demos, and interop paths are updated to use the publication for announcements and its broadcast for track operations. Documentation describes the API and prepared-publication lifecycle.

Update the authentication example to announce through the publication.
Line 51 still tells readers to call broadcast.announce({ auth }). The broadcast in this page's updated example is a Broadcast.Producer, which no longer has announce(). Use publication.announce({ auth }) so the documented authentication flow works. As per coding guidelines, “Fix any outdated docs and comments inline; don't add a separate PR for it.”

Update the authentication guidance to call announce on the publication rather
than the Broadcast.Producer; replace the outdated broadcast.announce reference
with publication.announce while preserving the surrounding explanation of how
auth is attached to the announcement.

Describe prepared.publish() as returning a Publication.
Prepared.publish() returns a Publication, not a new publisher instance. Tell readers to retain the returned Publication, because it owns announce(), unannounce(), route, and broadcast.
Proposed wording
-then `prepared.publish()` to answer with a new publisher instance.+then retain the `Publication` returned by `prepared.publish()`.
The implementation contract in js/net/src/origin.ts returns Publication from Prepared.publish().

Addressed both CodeRabbit doc findings in doc/lib/js/net.md: the auth example now announces through publication.announce({ auth }) (36a85e2), and the prepare bullet says to keep the Publication that prepared.publish() returns (9342d5a). Both are one-line doc wording changes after the OpenAI review of 43426a5, which found no bugs.
No other stale Broadcast.Producer announce references remain in JS docs, READMEs, or comments.
quest check --base origin/main passes; required CI is green.
