Plans the follow-ups from the 2026-10-25 /quest-complete run. Each one becomes a step in an existing quest or a new quest, or is dropped with a reason. Nothing duplicates an existing quest.

New quests

Steps added to existing quests

Dropped

  • Already covered:
    • rust2 exporter naming: c/name-clash.md
    • @moq/e2ee finish/abort: feat(net)!: one lifecycle vocabulary for finish, abort, closed, and close #6750's lifecycle.md
    • byte holes and front eviction
    • Moxygen pin: moxygen-pin-bump.md
    • draft-22 cells: interop-coverage
    • mkv role skip: cut-audit/mkv-import-errors.md
    • encoded gaps and ends: api-audit/encoded-read-bindings.md
    • a video config change starting a new track: catalog-identity-rs.md
  • No consumer, or not worth its cost:
    • an audio encode options record: moq-ffi already takes MoqAudioProducerOptions with bandwidth, and only the hand-written moq_encode_audio takes it positionally, which retires with that crate (dropped in review)
    • a rate-only pacer export (no second consumer)
    • a uniffi-bindgen-cpp pin-consistency check (uniffi-fork.md collapses the pins)
    • a loom test for the track outcome scan (no suspected race)
  • Contradicts a standing decision: running moq-net benches in PR selection when moq-quic changes. Nightly catches benches by design (decided 2026-10-24).

C direction (settled here, carried out in #6052 and #6798)

Comparing the two C APIs found that the generated one wins on:

  • breadth, with parity coming free from moq-ffi
  • callbacks off the I/O thread, with a host-loop dispatcher
  • synchronous cancellation
  • typed handles and structured errors
  • no handle exhaustion

What carries it out:

Choices made without the maintainer

  • The idle-START test went into drop-set.md rather than test-flakes-2: it fills a coverage gap, not a flake, and drop-set reworks that code.

Decision prompts

Approve the dispositions above?

  • ✅ Approve as listed
  • Adjust

The video importer: does a config change start a new track?

  • ✅ Drop it. Only config that requires reconfiguring the decoder needs a new track, because there is no mapping from group to catalog; size, bitrate and framerate don't affect that. (maintainer's words)
  • Every change starts a new track

Moq-net benches in PR selection when moq-quic changes?

  • ✅ Drop it (keep the 2026-10-24 Nightly decision)
  • Gate benches on PRs

Which C API ships at the m1 cut? (first asked as "#6052 vs #6798's plan"; the answer was "whichever has the better API")

  • ✅ Generated, with the c-v0.8.0 tag gated
  • Hand-written 0.7

How do GLib names reach the C build before the tag?

  • ✅ Port rust2#66's rule into the current uniffi-bindgen-cpp pin
  • Pin rust2 for C only
  • Tag snake_case now

When does #6052 land?

  • ✅ Land now (merging releases nothing)
  • Hold until the gates pass

Merge with main

Public API: none (quests only). Wire: none.

Walkthrough

The changes add and revise quest backlog entries across m0, m1, and m2. The plans cover probe behavior, credential naming, test coverage and failures, media and transport-stream handling, package checks, and release preparation. They document proposed investigations, tests, and prerequisites; they do not implement those changes.

Merge Risk: Low · up to a303e

This is a documentation-only planning change with no runtime effect. Several quest plans leave details unspecified or use identifiers that do not exist in the code, so tighten them before the work is picked up. None of this blocks merging.

Reviewed commit: 96f0cab

No actionable bugs found in this planning change. Assigning the coverage and streaming-read gaps to their existing owners avoids parallel implementations; the shared native-library/CMake relocation prerequisite also preserves the generated C package when the handwritten crate retires. The added PMT/PCR ordering requirement matches the importer's placement prerequisite.

The generated-C direction remains conditional on the separately owned pre-tag gates, not proof that the current generator/package is ready to publish. Verification: static inspection of the changed plans, relevant code and linked PR evidence only; no tests, builds, interop runs or reported reproductions independently executed.

Make the deterministic test seam explicit.

hooks.startTrack and hooks.dropTrackGroups change track state and drop ranges. They do not deliver SUBSCRIBE_UPDATE. The existing withRange spy queues that message through sub.client.writer, while gated holds the subscribe-stream write. Name the seam that establishes SUBSCRIBE_START, then SUBSCRIBE_UPDATE, then the first group. Also name the assertion that stale skips remain unreported until widening. Without that detail, the test may not cover the required ordering.

Keep graviola's named startup error, check the first media PES in the SI
round trip, trim MPEG-2 leading B-pictures by closed_gop, name every reader
of the shared C build files, and drop the audio options step: moq-ffi already
takes MoqAudioProducerOptions.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: 4718072

No new actionable bugs found in the substantive planning delta since my previous review; main integration was excluded. The direction is improved: preserve named CPU-feature diagnostics, assert first-media import after PCR, define open-GOP trimming and its recovery test, and verify every native-library relocation consumer.

The existing review findings are addressed at the plan level, rather than new findings here: audio options, open-GOP trigger, and relocation consumers. Removing the redundant audio-record step is simpler and matches the existing MoqAudioProducerOptions.bandwidth field.

Verification: static diff, related plan, audio API and recovery-test inspection only. These edits specify future implementation/tests; no tests, builds or interop runs were executed.

Took over the stale merge hold and landing this.

  • Merged main: kept main's new Nightly and test-flakes-2 entries beside this PR's. resolved-demand.md finished in moq-dev/moq#6717, so drop-set.md drops its Required section and keeps the idle-START test step.
  • Review fixes (4718072): graviola's check must keep the named startup error; the SI round trip also checks the first media PES; the MPEG-2 quest trims leading B-pictures found by closed_gop and adds a recovery_test.rs arm; c-retire updates every reader of the moved build files; the moq-audio options step is dropped since MoqAudioProducerOptions already carries bandwidth.
  • Not taken: CodeRabbit's nitpick to spell out the idle-START test's exact hook sequence in drop-set.md. The quest reworks that code, so the seam is the implementer's to pick.

Codex reviewed 4718072 with no findings; quest check passes against main.
